I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast pace environment and customer interaction. Really enjoy teaching and development of new associates.

    Cons

Not enough pay for hours expected to work. Some of company programs do not seem pro family

    Advice to Management

Invest more in tenured employees. Promote higher level positions more within company

I worked at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were nice and majority of management was helpful. Some days were very enjoyable to be at work.

    Cons

Absolutely unrealistic times for packing out merchandise and severely understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate the times for packing out and work harder to keep employees to stay at the job as a career.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is reasonable and quarterly bonuses can be a nice infusion for the people living paycheck to paycheck. There is a lot of room for advancement and constant openings. The work can be challenging at times. The attendance policy is very lenient, up to 8 absences every 6 months.

    Cons

The company has a bad track record of cronyism and favoritism when it comes to promotions that matter. It's not a feeling, it's a verified truth. That favoritism promotes unethical behavior that benefits only certain people, including myself, such as altering attendance records and excusing drug use. They don't train...like at all. Training for a job could be as little as 2 or 3 hours of shadowing someone. They have a long public reputation for keeping people long after they should, people that can't handle the job and put more work onto others. They have rampant understaffing issues even though many stores have a 10-12% payroll budget and will hire anyone with a pulse.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a better vetting model for salaried management, some of these people are ridiculous. Specifically ASM's. They are constantly breaking company policies left and right, sometimes to benefit themselves and sometimes to benefit only people they like. Many of them can't handle the job they've been given. This might be a culture problem within the company, I'm not sure.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

In most instances you get far better pay than most other retail job of the same nature.

    Cons

Too much micro management, constantly understaffed. Corporate goal seems to be to have a single job code for the entire store. Every employee should be able to work in any area. This leads to unskilled staff in areas where a knowledgeable, well paid person would dramatically improve sales.
Specialty areas such as Electronics, Photo, Jewlery and cellular phones are under trained and under paid.

    Advice to Management

If you really want to do more will less employees, it is going to cost you. make your people happy, pay them for knowledge, train them, make them better. Don't just throw them in the deep end and see how long them swim before they quit.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They do tend to be flexible with hours given and I have made some close friends that I am still in contact with

    Cons

Pretty low wages, difficult to move up without inside connections, decent hours during holiday season that go to nonexistent as soon as the season passes, little to no respect from management

    Advice to Management

How about not forcing people to have a decision making day and write a paper about why they would still like to work for Walmart. No one outside of management really wants to work there, so you are not really getting honest feedback in that paper, just saying...
