I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some associates are hardworking and want to move up, but they'll never get the chance to because of favoritism.

    Cons

Be prepared to work 50+ hours and get paid for 40. No work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Start treating your salaried workers with respect and not like slaves. We have lives outside of work.

I worked at Walmart (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's good for getting customer service experience.

    Cons

Weird hours, not enough pay, and they do what ever they can to give you as little benefits as possible.

    Advice to Management

Be approachable, be willing to let workers switch days when they need to, and speak more with other management so that you're all on the same page.

    Pros

    Decent benefits - Average salary

    Cons

Store managers expectations of all managers below are totally unrealistic. Some store managers treat assistants very badly.

    Advice to Management

Open door policy is not happening in stores. There are still store managers and loss prevention area supervisors running theit stores by feat and intimation. Due to low staffing the moral for managers and associates alike is very low.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

discount after 3 months, bonus' after 6 months

    Cons

Its very labor intensive work, especially when they only schedule half of the staff most of the time to save money. The schedule sucks and don't ever expect more than 1 day off in a row.

    Advice to Management

The store should be fully staffed, it not only would help employee morale but customers will not be pissed for waiting 20 minutes to get infant formula or liquor, fabric or anything else that requires an associate.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good for time waiting to find a better job. If you work hard and get along well with management they can help you move up in the company.

    Cons

Unreachable goals, un reachable tasks. Coaching's given are not even for the associate who made a mistake.. I got a coaching for go backs being brought to the back room, and I didn't even see who or when they where brought back there. Was held accountable for a LOW sidekick. I am the only support in the entire supercenter. I could be coached daily for something like that, as well as the go backs. Ridiculous

    Advice to Management

Don't let outside managers come in and tear apart what you have built in a new store.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The old Walmart was better, these days if you can make full-time you have a chance to make your way into middle management. if you are one of those people management likes you can do well for yourself, at a retail level.

    Cons

Not working with people on their schedules, a growing 'our way or the highway' approach, understaffed stores, cutting corners at the expense of longterm profit, inexperienced management, confusion on basic company goals and plans, difficult customers, difficult environments.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your veteran associates who know and do their jobs with skill. A minimum wage part timer does only enough work not to get fired. Simplify policies. Return to fair scheduling and at least work with people again on coverage. Hire more cashiers and let them casher, you want to take people's money right? Stop the inventory control programs that never work, return to simpler times when everyone knew what was going on. Make managers accountable. Help your associates help you make money again.

Hours can be very Long time sometimes
