I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company promotes from within and has many jobs opportunities to offer

    Cons

Often there is a need for more associates. People tend to call off causing a shortage of employees leaving the ones who are there to carry out more duties.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes there isn't enough hardware to ensure the job can be completed in the time frame given

I worked at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lunches are crazy long, an eight hour shift having an hour long lunch and two 15 minute breaks is amazing and I admit I was spoiled

    Not too difficult

    Cons

Hours aren't consistent and dealing with people not scheduled to assist the department can be a pain.

Doing the team lift by yourself

Safety hazard grabbing shelving from the back room using a ladder and your will to live another day sometimes.

    Advice to Management

With poor management, the store can really suffer when it shouldn't. Before I left I had an ASM who did such a poor job during our remodeling that it was delayed because of poor communication between him, other managers and the supplies we needed that it was delayed and was a huge pain to employees and customers. I've seen Walmart run smoothly and it definitely can under the right guys.

    Pros

lots of hours and starting wage is higher then most starting level jobs. Has options for different skills to learn and areas of the store to work in.

    Cons

Depending on where you work in the store the labor is quite intensive. The turnover rate is quite high so you will likely wind up understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Work on maintaining a working system for both the claims and cap system because they often times going down. being more personal with your employees will make them feel like they're part of something as opposed to feeling like just another worker. maybe make a harder effort to find employees to fill the busy days. offering people who work hard a raise will likely make them work harder for another raise or make others take note and work harder for a raise. And just generally keep the employees in mind because we don't feel quite that important.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    10% discount on general merchandise
    decent medical/dental/vision insurance
    stock purchase program
receive a paycheck every other week
Have entertainment value of witnessing the "People of Walmart" firsthand.

    Cons

Expect to be treated like an inferior peon by salaried management.
Hourly associates are simply cogs in the Walmart machine. Replaceable.
Management is only required to interview three people for an open position. If you are not a favorite of a manager, don't expect an interview for a promotion.
The "No Retaliation" policy is not followed. If you annoy or inconvenience a manager, expect payback. Payback could be getting transferred out of a department you like or it could be that a manager will comb security footage for anything he can find to write you up.

    Advice to Management

Show respect and value all associates, even the hourly associates. Every human has value, treat them as such.
The way associates treat customers is a reflection of how management treats their underlings. Customers are happier when associates are happy.
Don't give extra privileges to people you know from your personal lives.

    Decent Enough Pay

    Poor Management in Certain Stores.

    Advice to Management

Maybe you should learn to hire people who are ACTUALLY going to be a manager and not someone who is going to do nothing and make everyone else do your manager tasks that you don't want to do.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

they do have ( well did ) have good career opportunities and pay

    Cons

do not have another job and expect to get hours "people first" software controls the scheduling and management will screw you over if you do not give them weekends. Worked there 2 times both times same dept part time 5-9 in the evenings and every weekend until I changed my availability ( which you are allowed to do) to not include weekends ( the horror that I wanted to have time with my family) I was scheduled 3 or 4 nights a week and both Saturday and Sunday and I had no points at the time of my departure. I was told by both store and district management that my availablitity and open shifts control me being scheduled -- open shifts daily in the dept ( 1 to 10 or 2 to 11) and instead of someone for 4 to 4.5 hours of the shift it was left vacant again like I said this is just stating what you will encounter... Maybe not all are this way but St Marys PA is

    Advice to Management

They need to realize people with full time jobs do not want to work 7 days a week
