I have been working at Walmart (Less than a year)

    Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

    Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.

    Advice to Management

    Raise Pay

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great advancement opportunities! Not a job for the faint of heart, or those thinking they can skate through it. Hard work is required and rewarded. Set a goal, work hard for it, and you have the potential to enjoy a long-lasting and well paid career. Positive attitude a must. It's retail. No better or no worse than any other retail environment. The job is what you make it.

    Cons

Like any other retail environment, lack of good help will make it difficult to complete daily tasks. You will have to finds ways to rise above this. Ability to constantly refocus and redirect yourself is a must. Some days this can be taxing and exhausting. You'll need to have an abundance of common sense. Training is often non-existent and you'll have many 'sink-or-swim' opportunities present themselves. Set your mind to push through them and learn from them, and you'll grow.
Work/life balance is typical retail. You will work all holidays and most weekends. Expect it. If you cannot accept this reality, don't apply for this work.

    Advice to Management

Invest more time and attention to your talent, especially the young ones. They are the future of your business. These folks will work a lot better for you if you TEACH them. Take the time to get to know them.
Corporate leaders and senior management are out of touch with what goes on inside the stores. Processes are beautiful and, in theory, are amazing. BUT, they are not executable inside the stores. One shift sets the tone and successfulness of the next. When one shift cannot execute processes, the next shift will fail. Come inside and work with us for more than a day or two. We work hard at TRYING to execute your plan. We honestly wish we could be more successful.
