    I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    I need this job to earn an honest living. I want this job because I'm a hard worker who enjoys keeping things neat and clean. I have excellent references. I live nearby. I learn fast.

    Cons

    The boss can't see that you are working hard or putting in extra hours, so you are judged more on the numbers than your work ethic and other intangible factors.

    Advice to Management

    Be a good role model and help your employees understand what they need to do.

    I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Because I'm stocking, I can stock wherever my manager wants me too and not get bored because there are a lot of different departments. I like to move around when I work so I don't lose interest in a task I'm doing repeatedly.

    Cons

    The only downside I can think of working at Wal-Mart is that I'm a new employee and still don't know where every thing is, so I feel really guilty when I can't tell/show a customer where an item they are looking for is.

    I have been working at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Work is challenging, the opportunity is real and impact people are having is huge. Many good technologies to master to solve big data, large scale problems. Camaraderie among many teams.

    Cons

    Marc Lore does not get what engineering is for. He'd rather everything was outsourced to agencies. Engineers are too much trouble, they always tell you about things you can not do and they have 100s of reasons why. He wants everything to be simple and nobody on Jet exec team wants to sweat out the details. Coming from "somebody buy us out, please!" attitude that worked for him few times in a row, "build to last" is antagonistic to his "get rich quick" approach.

    Advice to Management

    wait and see

    I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    I cannot speak for past behavior of the company, nor for the non-web part. But on the technology side, I found myself being pleasantly surprised by what I found in the company vs. the assumptions Walmart out there in the general public.

    * modern technology choices
    * open environment
    * opensource heavily used and contributions encouraged
    * large scale to play with (data, visitors, product count, problem space, etc)
    * willingness to invest in innovative solutions and experimentation (depends on team I suppose)
    * company is showing more and more progressive and socially-responsible behaviors on the political front (green energy focus is one highlight)
    * "doing the right thing" is actually deeply ingrained into Walmart's DNA

    Cons

    * Big company issues - many departments with legacy solutions and long standing problems
    * If you are willing to "bring your own leadership", you'll have a good time. Otherwise, depends on which group you end up in.
