I worked at Walmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Loved learning and starting up the Personal Shopper position. It was brand new at the time and kept me very busy.

    Cons

The pay wasn't horrible but for the position, could have been better. You basically have to know every department to be effective in this position.

    Advice to Management

Management was overstretched. They did what they could but could have been much more effective if they had more staff.

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Once hired, after a few months you can switch around to different departments, retain an associate discount card and cross-train to learn different things in the company. On the plus side, 401k for both pt and ft.

    Cons

Sometimes, being crosstrained isn't the best. You will be utilized wherever needed at any given time. Not too many positions offer full time. Depending on what store you are in, may be short handed, meaning more work for you.

    Advice to Management

Expand employment in all departments, release the associates that call in too much!

    I worked at Walmart

    Pros

My first store was encouraging towards helping employees to advance.

    Cons

Poor advancement, some Managers will cut you hours if you want to go to school even though company encourages it. Pay is low for what the work you do.

    Advice to Management

When HQ's set the policies stick to it and stop having favorite employees, all employees should be treated the same. When one employee shows potential for a higher position then encourage them to apply.

I worked at Walmart for more than a year

    Pros

Made some cool friends, learned a lot from the select few of managers that took time out to train me. Fell in love with working in the Dairy Dept., which I never thought Id like. The Overnight Support Manager were amazing and worked really hard. There's a couple Asst. Managers that are incredible and took time out to actually listen to me when you had something to say.

    Cons

Too much drama, doesn't promote within, management plays favorites, pay is insulting, never felt appreciated for the hard work I did. I felt like I was taken for granted.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the workers who bust their butts for you. Promote them, don't overlook them, and pay them better. They're worth more than a 2% annual raise a year. That's just ridiculous. Do better!
