I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Skill building in business, customer service, merchandising, stocking

    Cons

Everyone coming in knows this will not be the highest paying job there is out there, but as you gain years of knowledge and experience you are not compensated fairly for what you bring to the table at that point. Then they change the pay scale and you see new, bottom of the totem pole associates coming in making what you are making in management after having been there for several years and they will not raise your hourly amount to compensate for that. Did I mention you are always expected to work major holidays (yes, Christmas too, although I hear some stores don't, but I find that hard to believe. The staff comes in at 10pm Christmas night, most of them gloss that over. But that is still Christmas).

    Advice to Management

    Get it together.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company provide good training tools and good pay, good benefits. Most of co workers are good. Good hours . Employees discount.

    Cons

The work load usually for 3 people so you always behind. Never enough assosiates. Unfortunately nobody cares. A lot of heavy stuff to pick up.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your assosiates, listen to them more often. Hire more people. Maybe give us a hand when we need help.

    Pros

Decent wage for salaried management. Very completive for the area and market.
I was hired at an excellent hiring event. Very informative and organized.

    Cons

The company does a very poor job of screening and hiring its hourly associates. Once hired they are provided very little, if any, training and simply "thrown into the fire." They are underpaid. The company goes to great lengths to avoid offering benefits and full time status and are constantly treated disrespectfully by store management.

    Advice to Management

You should probably do more than simply "lip service" your company's key values. Especially "respect for the individual." An occasional appreciation will go a long way in turning around the horrible morale that is obvious in most of the stores.
