I have been working at Walmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Tremendous variety in your day-to-day work, always something new to learn, opportunities to promote, genuinely good people working in these stores, and in my judgment the company is making good investments to remain relevant to customers for the future.

    Cons

Culture and leadership styles are not at all consistent across the company (it's a big company). Out in the stores/clubs, the culture is set by the store manager and market manager. If you're getting into field management, make sure you get a true sense of the culture of that market and store. Getting into the wrong store or market could make your 18-24+ month tour miserable and could ultimately slow your upward mobility.

I worked at Walmart part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The customers were my favorite part. I also enjoyed working with the stocking of products throughout the store.

    Cons

Management was overly full of themsrlves, lacked entry level trading and general customer service.

    Advice to Management

Need more training on staff and management communication. Also need a lot of training on general repect and courtesy to each other and customers.

    Pros

Walmart can teach and expose you to all situations. They have growth potential you just have to chose certain less volatile paths.

    Cons

Company changes far too fast for its own good. They create, eliminate and change structure and positions far too fast. Job security.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and pay starts at $10.00 an hour.

    Cons

The benefits only eligible for full time associates and Walmart only hires part time now. New pay rate increase policy takes several years to get a dollar increase in pay. Company no longer gives perks to its employees, treats employees like that are easily replaced.

    Advice to Management

Company needs to uphold the foundation that Sam Walton started his company on and treat your employees/associates better. Happy workers make a successful company.
