I have been working at Walmart (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good opportunity to learn, customers are for the most part nice, good pay.

    Cons

Corporate really needs to start cracking down on store level management. They're getting away with too much imo

    Advice to Management

**Advice to corporate. Fix your attendance policy. It sucks

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Despite Wal-Mart being a soul sucking horror they do pay fairly well and they do offer some decent incentives but that's about the only good thing I can say.

    Cons

Wal-Mart is a horror from which there is no awakening unless you get fired and even then they ruin your life. I worked there for nearly ten years, was only promoted once, had to fight several write ups that were nothing more than management retaliating against me, and for most of my time as a department manager ended up doing my assistant manager's job. The managers there are very dishonest, shady, and uncaring people. They ask you for your availability and then override it anyway. And should you get fired good luck finding a job elsewhere. They now use a third party company for employment verification who doesn't actually verify anything unless the new company pays a fee. It's incredible. I hated my job because I did everything that was expected of me and more and never received any recognition.

    Advice to Management

Stop being lying, dishonest, soul crushing, evil, two faced troglodytes and start treating your people with respect. Realize that while they work for you, Walmart is not their life. Honor the availability. Hold your management team responsible for their actions.

I have been working at Walmart full-time

    Pros

    Compensation
    Potential Growth
    Stable company
    Strong leadership at the top
A lot of stores across the US & the world

    Cons

Work Schedule is not always work life balanced
Assistant Store Managers salaries too low, hard to recruit top talent

    Advice to Management

Be prepared to work hard as the company has raised basic store standards in the recent months and expects a lot and have not yet added back in the labor in many cases that makes it a challenge.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Love making people smile and feel good when they check out. Love the job.

    Cons

the hours are all over the place most times you get more hours then you want and your back and feet hurt so bad from standing on your feet so much. Hours are good just painful in my case. would like set days and hours so I can plan other activities a month ahead. I also only got a 10 cent raise to 9 and hour I thought the least pay was going to be 10 and hour.

    Advice to Management

give set days and times that way if one needs to switch hours with someone because of an appointment etc. You can find someone to switch with easier.

I have been working at Walmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As part time, you can get almost 40 hours a week. Starting pay was decent. Company offers profit sharing and bonus'.

    Cons

Big box retailer vibe. Just not for me. You will deal with the most trashy people you can imagine that walk on this earth.

    Advice to Management

Not a whole lot. Since I'm part time in a huge store, I have yet to meet the store manager.

I worked at Walmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Advancement opportunities available for those who want to learn all aspects of the company.
Employees are nice and work well together on a one on one

    Cons

Management contributions are low but expectations are high
Salaries don't compensate the hard work that management expects
Too many managers demanding something at the same time
No sense of family values, only concerned about the bottom line
In order to advance you need to know the right people, work ethics are not the top priority for advancement
Management communication from 1st and 2nd shift to 3rd shift is non existent
Too many mistakes to fix in a full work shift which makes it almost impossible to keep store stocked properly and looking clean.
Not enough help and management refuses to hire more, too worried about bottom line.
Corporate level management is no help

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they are out there doing to work and trying to make sure the store is up to par. Instead of constantly micro managing, take a step back to listen and get the help that is needed to make the store run smoothly and productively.
