I have been working at Walmart eCommerce full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Great challenges. Walmart.com has lots to catch up on and Wal-mart is putting a lot of effort into making that happen - Emphasis on technological innovation - Walmart Labs especially - Autonomous . Contrary to the popular perception, Bentonville has minimal involvement in technology decisions. - Smart folks, quick turnaround time. Tech force is a combination of start ups acquired and talent from other top firms. I joined Labs from a competitor and was pleasantly surprised to see a better talent pool. - Great culture. good emphasis on diversity, employee well being - Small company with the benefits of a big company - Associate discounts on everything. Unlimited 10% off in stores and on walmart.com. Company shuttles. - Everyone gets a company iPhone - San Bruno office is global HQs - UK, Brazil , CN technology groups sit here

    Cons

    - In very nascent stages of e-commerce which is actually an opportunity but can be boring for someone looking to deal with ambuiguity

    Advice to Management

Buck the trend now and stop WalmartLabs from turning into a big bloated company - keep the teams lean and agile. Use technology to scale.

I have been working at Walmart eCommerce

    Pros

Walmart gave me opportunities to invent the future of eCommerce and work besides very talented engineers, many of which came from startup acquisitions.

    Cons

My experience at Walmart was exception. But it varies depending on your Manager and VP. There are plenty of folks trapped doing tech migrations.

I worked at Walmart eCommerce full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Solve some really challenging business problems. Good compensation. Especially RSUs. They have increased by more than 300% in the last 4 years.

    Cons

Terrible and incompetent middle level management - Directors to VPs. You are supposed to manage and get in from other teams who have no stake in your deliverables. Leads to a lot of infighting and band-aids.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of middle management and bring some competent people. Ebay culture has totally ruined what could have been a great company. Focus on impact, not political correctness. The potential to take the fight to amazon is still there but needs laser focused attitude from top to bottom, especially the middle management

I have been working at Walmart eCommerce full-time

    Pros

My team is a lot of fun to work with and I have learnt a lot from the management

    Cons

Growth in the company seems very much driven by who favors who rather than actual performance.

I have been working at Walmart eCommerce full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salaries are competitive (for Labs), great work-life balance if your team is laid back (like mine). The culture is more or less of a typical Bay Area internet company. People are generally nice.

    Cons

Benefits are sub-par for a company trying to compete with Google, Facebook; health insurance is something that definitely needs to be considered when negotiating (same selection as store employees). Hiring process is a bit questionable; there doesn't seem to be a ton of concern for culture fit, at least on the Labs side. Labs leadership seems rather hands off; I sense that they are coasting as well, as they are not held accountable for anything important like revenue. The expectation is that you under-promise and over-deliver. There isn't much incentive to innovate.

I have been working at Walmart eCommerce

    Pros

There is Great Work/Life balance. You can work for just 40 hours and be amongst the most hard working associate Good pay- pay checks here fat.

    Cons

Lack of respect for others time Very few smart people around No room for expression of ideas or providing opposing views from that of senior leadership/Manager/ ... no skills development no metrics to evaluate progress or performance at any level wasteful investment, no incremental/continuous change mentality (needed for retail)

    Advice to Management

Do something more that improving your resume' Walmart.com is not ebay, it is several times more complex and is a true retail company. Stop rebuilding the platform every 2 years.
