  2. "It pays the bills"

Current Employee - Front End Cashier in Hixson, TN

I have been working at Walmart part-time for more than a year

      Pros

I have a job. I get an employee discount of 10% on some items in the store.

      Cons

No insurance and being a part time employee no insurance is offered unless your status changes to full time, which is very hard to get. It is my understanding after you have been on the job for a year insurance may be offered.

      Advice to Management

Listen to your workers...whether it be good or bad comments, all comments should be taking into consideration at the store level and if at the store level something can't be done it may need to be passed upward to go as far as Corporate.

Brush up on the people who you choose to be managers. A lot of them are envious.

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Full time and good for starting a job for experience. Good health and dental care benefit after 6 months of working there. Your pay increases by $1 every year until you either get fired, quit or move to another walmart location, this is capped at I think around $26 an hour. Which means that you get capped after working for them for 16 years base on current minimum wage start (Probably better to get a college degree)....

      Cons

Low pay, time cut because they dont want us to go over time. They promise we could move to other department after 6 months but that never happened. The work you do will be the hardest and you wont get paid that much. If you are prone to heat stroke, you might pass out in the truck so you are forced to get fit. Racism might run in your department and higher ups wont do a thing about it. The one year that I work here there...

      Advice to Management

Give Cap Team more benefits and over time instead of cutting our hours, also increase the pay for Cap Team because we are the hardest worker in store besides the cashiers.

I worked at Walmart part-time for more than a year

        Pros

Discount, some friendly staff members, opportunity to move departments

        Cons

Refuse to give full time to majority of their staff to avoid giving benefits, discount only for non food items until November-December, managers are lazy

        Advice to Management

Give year round discount off food and stop cheating people out of benifits

I worked at Walmart part-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

        1. CSMs and most Management really care for their employees. 2. Gain good job experience for possible future jobs. 3. Meet a plethora of different people as co workers as well as customers.

        Cons

        1. Some Management does not care about their employees much less take the time to even do their own job. 2. Some Management plays favorites, giving a full time position to a dept hopping Associate who doesn’t actually do any work but talk, over associate who has been there longer and works her tail off. 3. The new attendance policy points changing from 8 to 5. While slate was...

        Advice to Management

To avoid possible L&I complaints follow proper disciplinary policies set in place. Stop playing favorites and actually do something about the employees not doing anything otherwise slot of the good decent employees who actually care about their jobs will stop caring eventually and move on. Fix the scheduling issues and occurrence policy to be more realistic
