I worked at Walmart part-time for more than a year

      Pros

I was hired on in 2017 when I was 20. I worked part time during the summer. Here are my thoughts: -I got hired on at $10.50 an hour, which for me was a huge pro. Since then, wages have increased to $11 -They took me in even though I had no retail experience, which was quite generous. -Upper management sincerely seemed well-meaning and the ladies in human resources were wonderful. -The work itself was mind numbingly...

      Cons

-The management hierarchy was very confusing. It was like a whole pyramid of managers. You'd never see the ones at the top, except maybe when you were initially hired. I'm not sure how the general managers and assistant managers got along, but the lower level managers like supervisors and department heads constantly butted heads about how to do things. -Morale was usually pretty low. Nobody seemed happy to be working...

      Advice to Management

Make the management hierarchy more clear. That was super confusing. Also, there was a ton of drama between employees in my department. One employee in particular was constantly instigating conflict with the head of produce because he was convinced he could do the job better and that stressed the rest of us out so badly. I realize that's not necessarily a problem with WalMart itself though, so I didn't let that effect...

    • "It pays the bills"

      StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Front End Cashier in Hixson, TN

I have been working at Walmart part-time for more than a year

        Pros

I have a job. I get an employee discount of 10% on some items in the store.

        Cons

No insurance and being a part time employee no insurance is offered unless your status changes to full time, which is very hard to get. It is my understanding after you have been on the job for a year insurance may be offered.

        Advice to Management

Listen to your workers...whether it be good or bad comments, all comments should be taking into consideration at the store level and if at the store level something can't be done it may need to be passed upward to go as far as Corporate.
