I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Leadership goes over and beyond painting a vision of an employment utopia for their employees

    Cons

    Too many employee layoffs

    Advice to Management

Don't expect loyalty from employees when you are constantly laying their coworkers off. Forced ranking for annual reviews will not build a team atmosphere.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Salary positions pay well, some managers are flexible on hours/location of work, benefits are ok.

    Cons

Very political environment and must be a good networker and have influencers on your side to be promoted. Raises above 2% year are extremely rare. Current rating system forces managers to give poor performance reivews even if all the team is meeting the expectations, this will stall your career and mark you for layoff the next time the department needs to reduce budget.

    Advice to Management

Go back to a fair assessment of performance. Allow and trust people to work remotely as needed. Stop the obsession with beating Amazon, you win by doing the things Amazon does not do, however online does need to keep improving to compete.

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Team-oriented, yet flexible to allow you to be independent and accountable for your actions. When you get a manager that understands your strengths/interests and helps you continue to build on those skills are a plus. You can leave early or work from home when necessary, but don't abuse it. Team-building activities within the team and community are good as well.

    Cons

As expected, there can be long hours depending on the project.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Awesome teammates; a great opportunity to learn through courses, experiences, and conferences; great manager; improving culture; ability to wfh or take off when needed

    Cons

Promotion politics, bell curve rating system which impact bonus payouts, promotion quota, slow reaction-based changes, schisms between tech offices due to differences in benefits packages, low base pay, no free food, difficulty in transferring between locations

    Advice to Management

Invest in the culture and do it NOW.

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

You get a variety of jobs, not all focused on one thing, such as Merchandising. There’s Legal, Real Estate, IT, Logistics.

    Cons

Evaluations are very subjective now. You can be doing a good solid job, and still don’t get a decent raise or full bonus simply because people outside your immediate area don’t know you or exactly what you do, but they get input on your salary.

    Advice to Management

I realise things have changed since Sam Walton died, but it feels like you’ve lost sight of how he treated his associates. If you take care of your people, they’ll take care of the customer.

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Walmart Technology has great leadership, culture, and the resources to enhance your skills/experience in the field of technology.

    Cons

The business and technology are located in separate facilities, so meeting with business stakeholders requires frequent traveling from one campus facility to another or using conference call tools. These conditions are in the process of changing.
