I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Usually the Department Managers of Bakery for Walmart are fine and well helpful. You don't need ANY experience for this position. Even if they don't hire or promote from within the company. They will hire anybody! They will teach you while you get trained by your bakery manager and a cake tech from dawn's food will come out and help you train as well. Keep that in mind as cake tech is very helpful

    Cons

Bad Upper Management. The way Assistant Store Managers, Zone Managers or "support managers" as well as Store Manager treats their fresh food employees is just down right awful. Y'all could be more sensitive to them. These people are always on their feet and getting verbally abused by customers... No room for advancement if you don't kiss butt to the assistant store manager...

I have been working at Walmart full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Great benefits and salary for the work being done

    Cons

They say there is no retaliation if you come forward with an issue, but that’s not consistent with all management. There are too many managers making their own rules and upper management looks the other way if behaviors are unethical.

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good experience leading other associates, handling money and audits, organizing schedules Easy to move up if you work hard and apply yourself to new opportunities Decent training programs for new managers

    Cons

Customers often become very angry (especially with returns and money issues) and don't take no for a answer no matter how nice you are High turnover with employees, very difficult to keep a consistent team Lack of support often from upper management, inventory and sales floor often take precedent over front end (the good managers tend to leave) Never enough cashiers to fill...

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

You might get lucky and get managers that just like to manage and not micro-manage. Usually decent comradery between co-workers. Job's easy enough if you're allowed to do it.

    Cons

You could get managers that micro-manage, usually from the way they train them to be practically on your shoulders. Usually, no open communication with upper management, if you do catch one for a conversation, it's almost guaranteed they'll dodge any question unless it's about you helping them out. Sometimes doctor notes don't mean anything. Gotta remind management and personal...

    Advice to Management

To store managers, open and honest communication with your employees, they are smarter than you think. To corporate, work on your benefits and listen to some ideas from employees.

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Great working conditions, flexible schedule, all the tools needed, not overworked, for the most part had good team to work with. All in all, I loved what I was doing for over 14 years.

      Cons

Upper Management in the department did not take in to consideration past work outside of Walmart as a valued experience, seemed to only consider Walmart experience as having any value. Therefore getting ahead was made very difficult. If you have done a good job where you are, upper management wants to keep you there.

      Advice to Management

When looking a promotions or transfers, consider the complete experience of the associate, not just what they have done lately for Walmart.
