I worked at Walt Disney Company as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Able to work remotely when personal matters came up. Very friendly atmosphere, focused on quality and timely work and not kabuki. Nice perks if FTE.

    Cons

Only about ⅓ of staff are FTEs, group I worked with were good but conservative, that is to say not very out of the box thinkers. Work had a lot of old fashion manual processes.

    Advice to Management

Offer more management training to middle management that encourages innovation. Make more of your work force FTEs

Exciting products, world-wide brand, lots of resources, in numerous lines of business (entertainment, theme parks, consumer products, digital

    Cons

Very large company - large bureaucracy. Jobs could be "highly siloed" due to size and specialization.

    Advice to Management

Share business, performance info on companies, divisions, and units across department and company lines.

I worked at Walt Disney Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employee Disney park pass and good cafeteria

    Cons

Co workers were mean and lying! The directors were micromanaged, the work was intense and given very little time to actually do that work! We were expected to be Disney happy all the time and that's not even realistic!!

    Advice to Management

Treat people like human beings! Stop bringing out the worst in them by putting them down

I have been working at Walt Disney Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable job, amazing characters, properties, and films to work with. The CEO is amazing, he fixed Animation from a culture standpoint with Jon Lasseter. But the rest of the company has a long way to go.

    Cons

You will need to jump through many many layers to get anything approved. The work environments are almost all cubicles that are outdated. Its a hierarchal organization thats says it wants creativity and innovation however it stifles both. What is sold to the outside mostly comes from the places purchased and were already fixed such as Pixar, and Marvel. The good stuff that comes out of the company comes at the cost of moral, frustration, and bitter anger within.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all the senior level positions from SVP to EVP. Its time to move forward and become agile. More autonomy and purpose less meetings, more project based work. The company is all politics and lack of ownership. TOO MANY COOKS IN THE KITCHEN.

    Pros

Online division (DCPI) feels like a startup in all the best ways.

I have been working at Walt Disney Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Retirement savings plan, long term bonus incentives, silver pass to access the parks, merchandise discounts, the company has its own credit union which comes great in some situations.

    Cons

In some divisions the adoption of new technologies is slow. Promotions are rare so you need to apply to new open positions from scratch to advance your career.
