    Pros

    Great pay! Great Benefits!

    Cons

Poor management, long hours. Loved this job up until last 3-4 years in which a different management group took over and it's been down hill ever since!

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees, and listen to suggestions from experienced workers relating to wasting time and materials!

    Pros

The salary was okay for the time I was there with routine overtime, but not a burdensome amount. I formed good relationships with some employees.

    Cons

This company is very top heavy in management with poor decision makers. This was once a very efficient and mostly well run company until an interim CEO burdened the company with a $3 Billion debt that couldn't be payed off in the best of times. Management always uses the economy and Obama as excuses, but the blame for their current financial state belongs to management. They also lack opportunity for non-management positions unless you like living underground for 80 hours a week.

    Advice to Management

Resign and let someone that knows what they are doing take over. The interim CEO and the board of directors should have been prosecuted for the decisions they made, but unfortunately, stupidity is perfectly legal.

    Pros

The people at Walter Energy are amazing! They are hard working, trustworthy and dependable. The company as a whole was a good place to work before the bad business decisions.

    Advice to Management

Listen More to the boots on the ground. Their opinions matter as well.

    Pros

Freedom to appply many different creative solutions. The culture their is the type of atmosphere that is very helpful with my profession. I am also allowed to approach most projects with a level of say so.

    Cons

Lack of understanding from within about the different roles neccesary to accomplish certain task. Also having to act as an administrater 30 - 40 percent of the time slows my engagements down.

    Advice to Management

Implement a CIO who has somewhat been in the trenches. Allow the department too carefully choose employees with different specialized skills to create more effective teams. Seperate development and administration for the power users who are constantly engaged in projects and enforce end users who are primarily the customer of solutions, to become more involved in all stages of projects, and not just when something is working properly.
