I worked at Washington Athletic Club part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Everyone is friendly and excited about your goals and life. Free Lunch!

    Cons

Underutlze staff or technology for certain operations creating an imbalance of work, especially for the less used resources of the club

    Advice to Management

Give more opportunities to help the overall club to places like the club shop. The downtime can be spent more effectively than waiting for members to stop by.

I worked at Washington Athletic Club full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fun coworkers & mostly great clients. Employee lunch room with decent free food for lunch times. Good place to work for like a year or 2.

    Cons

Pay is surprisingly low for employees pay in the spa. Be prepared to never get a raise, no matter how much revenue you pull into the spa, your retention rates or how long you've been there. If you're able to work full-time in spa you possibility can get med benefits, but its not a guarantee. Will be over worked, not paid attention to & treated like your not valued, no recognition of achievements in the spa by management....

    Advice to Management

Have upper management check in & talk with employees, esp about how immediate managers are working. Pay more attention to turn over rates, usually shows a deeper problem.

I worked at Washington Athletic Club full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

If you’re in the union, benefits are amazing. The 401(k) matching is high. My most positive experiences were with my direct managers. They went above and beyond to be helpful, kind, understanding, and be a part of the team. They have a huge undertaking with a restaurant that is open from 7am-12am; they are extremely underpaid for all that they do. Additionally, CFO, you are a great person. You are genuine and a treasure.

    Cons

There are a lot of unlivable wages being made at the WAC. There is very little job growth within the organization. I got a better job opportunity in a completely different field and was told by someone in upper management that I can always go back to restaurants on the weekends when I don’t make enough money. To that person, I’m just a body that works and should work 7 days a week, apparently. This person wasn't even...

    Advice to Management

Restaurant managers- keep downing the coffee because I fear you’re always going to be taking on several positions for the price of one. Know that you are so loved and appreciated by the people that work with you on the daily. Upper management- find a way to pay your lower level employees better. If you have a full time employee that has another full time job as well, you’re probably not paying enough. Don’t comfort...
