I worked at Washington Department of Veterans Affair’s as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay was good and as a contractor I could set my own work hours and schedule.

    Cons

Workplace bullying was rampant and with no HR support (they literally told me that they have no jurisdiction or grounds to intervene) there was no way to check people for highly immoral and unethical practices. Backbiting and lying, rumor mills and the like we're way too common place, to the extent that people would say anything about anyone to get more money on their own contracts. I watched it destroy good people's careers and just couldn't stomach it anymore after 3 years.

    Advice to Management

Include measures against unethical conduct in contracts that holds contractors accountable for their actions and get the guts to cancel a contract if integrity isn't upheld.

I have been working at Washington Department of Veterans Affair’s part-time

    Pros

    -Work with Vets
    -Good support from management
    -Fun environment and staff
-Generally pleasant, fun, happy residents who enjoy the services that we provide

    Cons

    -Impossible to change things
-As a LPN you have 0 managerial pull
    -Union protects bad employees
-No real upward mobility as a LPN
    -Difficult to take time off

    Advice to Management

Please start looking toward the future and look at going to electronic charting, paper charting is a hassle, a mess, and ultimately isn't as safe for the patient.
