    The benefits were great for management employees.

    The pay was low because the benefits were good.

    What management? They outsourced American jobs to foreign countries/

    Top management really need to see whats really going on in there Company.

    I have been working at Washington Gas Light Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Hours can be flexible, ability to telecommute, you can advance your career if you prove yourself. Most people are generally nice. Downtown office is very nice and is easily accessible by public transportation.

    Cons

    Lots of politics and restructuring occurs in several departments. It can be difficult to plan a long term career with the constant departmental change. Leadership is not very well liked by the masses. Several leadership decisions have had a very negative impact on employee morale over the past 5 years. There is a lot of turnover in finance.

    Advice to Management

    Consider the impact of leadership decisions on the masses. Create career opportunities for all employees, not just a chosen few.

    Pros

    Interesting work.
    Steady work loads.
    Connects to so many area businesses and leadership.
    Many interesting aspects to the business creating opportunity for career mobility.

    Cons

    Old fashioned culture.
    Risk aversion.
    Critical functions are outsourced overseas creating frustration with customers and employees.
    Lots of bottlenecks in customer processes.

    Advice to Management

    Critical functions should be handled in-house. Not enough modern options to connect with customers. Not enough employee engagement.

    Pros

    - Stability (Many have worked 20+ years for company)
    - Competitive pay
    - Co-workers that are hard working

    Cons

    - Oudated concepts and ways of thinking
    - Refusal to embrace change
    - Safety culture that is outdated and reactive in nature
    - Too much politics
    - In ability to make change, especially in the areas of safety
    - Favoritism, bias, nepotism

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of the Old Boys club and replace it with people who are knowledgeable about the work being done. It doesnt matter if you manager is a member of the same golf club. Get rid of the bias and embrace new ideas. Also make management employees accountable for their actions. Review leading facts and stats on your management staff. If you have supervisors and managers who can not lead, or who have several altercations with their staff, or if there is high turnover in a department, act swiftly and immediatley to rectify the situation before you ruin the reputation of the compay as a whole.

    Great pay, extensive training, union, benefits

    Cons

    never home, travel time, traveling 100 miles to and from, plus the over time that you WILL get, sometime 16 straight, leaves no time to rest or see the family, Also, a lot of racial bias

    Place people close to home

    if you don't belong to the proper clique you are ALWAYS an outsider..CONSTANT "re-engineering" constant PURPOSEFUL instability.

    Pros

    The benifits packages are still structured extremely well and are indicative to current standards. Medical and dental are above average for area and include other insurance options. The utilities market is a very stable environment at current times for vocational workers.

    Cons

    The IT and upper management positions leave very little room if any fro advancement. The corporate structure reorganizes about every three to four years. This will include outsourcing with elimination of certain job titles without much notification. The chance for job training or improvement is extremely limited, leaving very little room for growth.

    Advice to Management

    A more progressive mentoring structure and feed back from employees that can be included in the new corprate environment would be appreciated. The need for retaining middle aged employees and advancing them over older retirement aged employees would lead to long term success as a business model and would further usless need to retrain and reorganize every few years.

    Pros

    Awesome manager, fair practices, and downtown near all of the government actions. Great atmosphere and work life balance

    Cons

    They did not fully utilize my educational background and their salary is not competitive at all with the overall market with a graduate degree as well as the cost of living.

    Teleworking policy, restructuring across retail and utility businesses, very much needed to grow business revenues.

    Cons

    Not hiring the right individuals with the right skill sets at the lower level management.
