I have been working at Washington Hospital Healthcare System full-time

    Pros

Great coworkers, great Pay, that's it

    Cons

Backstabbing, gossiping. Too many people in management, not enough workers. Everyone wants to be a boss or manage and do none of the dirty work

    Advice to Management

Find out why nurses are leaving and we are always short

I worked at Washington Hospital Healthcare System full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Emergency Dept staff is like a big family. Watch out and help one another. Great Physcian/Staff relations.

    Cons

Management is very much about themselves.
Scheduling is done in a manner that seniority means nothing. In the Hospitals eyes, you are nothing but a number.

    Advice to Management

Loose at least half of your 15 Vice Presidents.
    Very much "top heavy"
To the Dept Management.... realize that the staff is what makes that Dept run the way it does. They are the ones that spend holidays, nights, weekends, and countless hours there without you down there back. Your Mo day threw Friday,7-3 means nothing. So you go to countless meeting.... the staff are in the pits, saving lives, dealing with all sorts of issues and illnesses.

    Pros

If you are in one of the "cliques" you will have much support from your coworkers.

    Cons

Terrible management. The few staff nurses in the managers pockets are treated very well, schedule/OT preference. It is very hard to trust your coworkers, not knowing who is really a mole for management. This is a widespread sentiment. Very weak CNA representation, also cuddled up to management. Pt care is far below power plays in importance. I was told by the long term RN's it was a great place to work until approx 2012-2013, when pt care, staffing, morale, etc all tanked.
One of the very few hospitals that mandates benefitted RN's start at 5 days a week (40 hour). After 2+ years you can decrease to 4 days a week! Work/Life balance is nonexistent.

    Advice to Management

Simple- Support your nurses and they will bend over backwards for the hospital they are loyal to.

I have been working at Washington Hospital Healthcare System part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice teamwork amongst the nurses.

    Cons

No breaks in 8 hours- happens regularly- no one cares!
Hateful management and HR is a nightmare. If you appreciate intimidation and hatefulness this is the place for you!

    Advice to Management

    Grow up!

    Pros

Great hospital, the teamwork between physicians and nurses and support staff is excellent.

    Cons

Shared rooms, rather than private are tough when you need to have difficult conversations with patients and there is someone else on the other side of the curtain.

I have been working at Washington Hospital Healthcare System part-time

    Pros

The team work at this hospital is unlike anything I've ever seen. The doctors are very personable to their nursing staff. The CNAs are amazing--definitely the hardest working CNAs I've ever worked with.

    Cons

Scheduling is tough. 8 hours of work and the CNAs are not allowed to chart anything. Nursing has to fulfill the work of CNAs and RNs including intake and output, charting, vital signs in 8 hours. It's extremely hard to adjust to... but it's doable.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Washington Hospital Healthcare System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great pay and call hours

    Cons

Horrific management, very unprofessional and abusive. Incredibly biased and fear driven leadership

    Advice to Management

Hire someone who supports staff, evaluate current leadership for HIPPA compliance and state law abidance for workplace rights.
