    Pros

Good Benefits and retirement. Pays on time.

    Cons

Total lack of leadership and direction. Most of management is out for themselves. Those that care are shut down by the status quo people who want to keep the most ammount of government benefits for minimal ammount of work

I worked at Washington State Department of Transportation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Medical and Insurance, lots of schedules to choose from, set ways to move up. Union protected. Most other employees are helpful to learn the job. Most captains and mates are really nice and provide you with info to move up the ladder.

    Cons

Start on-call, so you usually don’t know where or when you are working until the day before. No stipend for driving all over Washington (except on OT). Often have to work an OS position. Since it’s Union, many people above you don’t work hard since they are protected. Long probationary period.

I have been working at Washington State Department of Transportation full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I feel a sense of purpose as a public servant. Serving the community, connecting people. Working with many talented dedicated people, who work hard to keep our state moving.

    Cons

A toxic work environment due to unaddressed institutional and systematic discrimination. 75% of the nearly 7000 employees are men. It is hard to watch the most skilled and talented employees leave for healthier work environments.
