    Pros

    Depending on your adviser the work will either be awesome or terrible, so be very careful selecting one.

    Cons

    You're not gonna make much money. You're gonna work a lot of unpaid overtime - which isn't a labor law violation because they give you 'credit'. It's what happens when a labor market is distorted this badly.

    As graduate student programs go, it pays well and some PI's are great to work with.

    Cons

    The SMB department is more interested in the number of students it shoots out, than the quality of students it produces.
