I worked at Washington State University full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Quality of life. Interesting work at a world-class institution. Great on-campus perks.

    Cons

Small-town pettiness often trumps good management. Many entrenched old-timers in charge of departments. Hard to break into management. Politics.

I worked at Washington State University for more than 5 years

    Pros

Small town, good for families with children, low life expenses.

    Cons

    - WSU is all about money. the goal is to increase the number of students and lower the cost. Waste tons of money on football and make more debt to attract new students. - Lots of students from Arab countries are here to increase WSU revenue and they are not good. - Graduate students salaries are cut, faculty people are not happy here too. There are too many problems that I do not even remember them! - Most students are not good at technical majors, it is headache. (of course that does not matter, they pay tuition) - Insurance is going down the hill every year. - University is in bad financial situation because the former president wanted to have medicine school and massage his ego.

I have been working at Washington State University full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It is such a small town that is very easy to comute. There are no traffic lines and is perfect for families.

    Cons

It is not easy to get promoted. you either get into a position or forget it. It is more about who you know than what you know. It is especially difficult for women.
