I worked at Washington Wizards as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Full access to the Front Office and Arena. It is an incredible learning experience and I highly recommend anyone who has a chance to work for the Wizards or Monumental Sports do so! They are a one of a kind organization. I have worked for many teams and this is the mot well run!

    Cons

Long hours and have to work weekends but that is the nature of the sports industry!! So if you like what you do it should not matter!

    Advice to Management

Provide more internship opportunities in different departments at Monumental Sports

I worked at Washington Wizards as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff is attentive and wants the intern to learn as much as possible. Responsibilities are given with room to grow and expand. Interns are paid a stipend.

    Cons

Very few cons - main being that it is technically an unpaid internship.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    Great Benefits
    Nice Perks
    High Energy
    Hire from within

    Cons

    This was Pre-Ted Leonsis

Horrible Office Politics (it was like being in high school)
    Top Execs played favorites
Hired under qualified candidates over qualified candidates for "personal" reasons
    Horrible and malicious office gossip
Allowed a few bad apples to run the show and damper the work place

From what I heard a lot of the worst offenders were fired when Ted Leonsis took over.

    Advice to Management

You've overlooked and run out some wonderful employees by being short sighted and playing favorites. Good luck in the future.

    Pros

Opportunities to receive early access to other events in the Verizon Center, season passes for Wizards & Mystics, cool staff, etc...

    Cons

I worked there at a time when a new program was being developed. I dealt with not receiving my checks, and not really being considered an actual employee even though I was there everyday. That person is no longer there and I can also understand when new things are being implemented and details are not clear to everyone. I'm sure the organization is a lot better now.

    Pros

    Location
Free or Advance Tickets To Arena Events
    Great Health Benefits

    Cons

    No Advancement
    Long Hours
    No Women In Upper Management
    Gossip
Too Many Young People with Egos
    Low Pay

    Advice to Management

Get more involved. Same people advancing for no reason at all. Where are the women....oh yeah, they were either let go or leave because it is a "Boys Club!"
