I worked at Waste Connections full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good starting pay as a mechanic with only a few years of experience, mostly good people to work with and to work for, good benefits

    Cons

Too much work for the amount of people we had. Often had to have people from locations that were hours away come and help with the workload.

    Advice to Management

Take a good look at the smaller locations and make sure they're getting all the same help/treatment as the larger locations.

I have been working at Waste Connections (More than a year)

    Pros

Very huge on employee retention. Great atmosphere. Company is big on Safety. Great benefits. Transfer options anywhere in the US and in Canada. Promote from within as much as possible.

    Cons

Well it is a refuse company, so when holidays come around, most of us have to work the next day to make up for it. People still have trash to pick up so we have to keep up with all our great customers.

    Advice to Management

None. They do a fantastic job in my opinion.

    Pros

Good experience. They use some great training tools. Decentralized businesses. Fun industry.

They do not practice what they preach. Communication is poor amoung Leaders. Not a good fit if you want to settle down with a family.

    Advice to Management

Stay decentralized. It's hard but worth it even though it drives upper management and controllers crazy. Listen to the Managers at the local level they know the business and will make the right things happen.
