I have been working at Waste Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Convienently located, call center experience, appreciation attempts such as raffles and giveaways (although poorly executed). Honestly, good experience for your resume but not a career growth company.

    Cons

Upper management has no idea what they are doing. Managers do what they think should happen without knowing how anything on the floor works. They have supervisors provide little information to workers. Supervisors are hired from out instead of promoted which leads to supervisors who know NOTHING about what agents on the floor need help with.

    Advice to Management

Do focus groups of the workers before making decisions that hugely impact them. Take time to review all the pros and cons of decisions you are making. And look into why you have such huge turnover rates of great employees, it may lie in just providing a listening ear to those who work directly with the customers. Try promoting from within instead of always hiring from outside. Last 6 supervisors hired were from outside while you have great leads who would make great supervisors and know the business.

I worked at Waste Management full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Loved the schedule and paid weekly

    Cons

Customer Service rep promoted to Supervisor needed training on how to be a supervisor.

    Advice to Management

Implement some type of training. Hands on is fine but some people need training material to refer to

    Pros

there was a lot of overtime available

    Cons

the incentive pay for doing the most dumps in a day and the supervisors and dispatchers controlled how much money you could make they would sometimes use the pay as a disciplinary tool

I worked at Waste Management full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Had the opportunity to perform a wide variety of duties.

    Pay and benefits was average.

    401K was great

    Worked with some great people.

    Cons

Work life balance was poor on call 24/7

Did not have the financial resources to fix issues that needed tending to.

Senior Management was poor they in most cases were only concerned which their own career path and did not care about others career path.

    Advice to Management

I feel that senior management should have more knowledge than the people that they are managing so they can truly teach and mentor not intimidate

I think senior management should be promoted based on merit and not because they are part of the good old boys group.

Working with contractors, consultants, and market arwa WM personnel (not corporate staff). Pay is above average. Flexible schedule allows for working remotely.

    Cons

No work/life balance. Expectation is to be available by phone 24/7. Some corporate staff are both arrogant and unpleasant.

I have been working at Waste Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Weekly pay . Slow paced, easy systems to use . Commission is ok . And for the most part , the agents are pretty helpful to one another .

    Cons

Management has no clue , anytime you ask them a question they refer you to an instruction manual . Your supervisor will walk past your desk 8 times and not say anything work related but as soon as she sits down , she sends you a coaching email. Supervisors here like to lead from their desk instead of leading from the floor . None of them are savvy and the practices of the company are a tad bit unethical. They don't have any structured training for new hires , which is fine , but then you ask 18 questions , and will get 18 different answers. Upper management here likes to send emails , instead of actually getting to know their team and being hands on with them. The manager actually sent an email and said "we did a horrendous" job last month.

    Advice to Management

Don't use the word horrendous in a professional email . Stop sending so many long emails. In meetings , how about you actually try to get the input from the agents instead of instructing and talking at us. If you want better results , you need to engage the employees more . And please don't think buying us lunch here and there will motivate . Everyone is motivated by different things , try and find out .
