I worked at Waste Management full-time

    Pros

Waste Management has very good benefits.

    Cons

There is a very high turnover rate in Set Up Agents. There is too much stress put on the agents to get high volume of accounts keyed in with no mistakes.

    Advice to Management

Don't put so much stress on the Set Up Agents to be perfect. No one is perfect, people make mistakes. Agents trying to key over 100 accounts a day are going to make some mistakes.

I have been working at Waste Management full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Weekly paychecks, some very friendly and funny people to work with, free water, coffee and soda, nice benefits.

    Cons

Very micro-managed, contradictory performance matrix; they want you to work quickly but also want you to have zero errors, which is difficult when you actually care about resolving a customer's issue correctly. They also charge outrageous charges, which makes customers extremely upset and leads to low customer service reviews, resulting in your overall quality score being much lower than it should be. You're expected to go to the bathroom during breaks or your 30 minute lunch, so that your average personal time for the month is 5 minutes or less. Terrible software which makes responding to customers timely, take longer. WM buys up other trash hauling companies, but don't have enough drivers to service the new customers. Little to know accountability between departments and everyone blames other departments for errors that happen, instead of take responsibility and just fix the issue. Low hourly rate and location is really too far for all the hassle.

    Advice to Management

Management pretty much does what the higher-ups tell them to do, so my advice is for them; you really need to do a better job of listening to what the customers want and stop being so greedy. If you're gonna charge people like you're the Nordstrom's of waste removal, you need to act like it! Otherwise, all the customer service representatives will be doing is processing missed pickup complaints, cancellations and credits, rather than setting up new accounts!

I have been working at Waste Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

LOTS of hours (50-60 or more)
    Good pay
    Stock option
    401k match
Keeps you very active and in shape
Most of your coworkers are easy going and good company to be with all day.

    Cons

Hard to advance with out knowing someone or being a Route mangers favorite.
    Too many hours.
    Too many rules.
Mangers don't care to hear about any of your problems, if the problem are big enough to matter you have to go through HR to get any type of resolution.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your drivers and stop encouraging your drivers to brake the rules in order to get routes done.
