I worked at Waste Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Schedule: 8-5 pm M-F

if you do ever get out of the customer service center, the work place is more relaxed and less stress.

    Cons

Managers disorganized , the worst one has since left due to medical
the managers managers are even worse, They won't even look in your direction when they walk by. They give all their dirty work to the managers and the managers are then supposed to give employees their even more dirty work.

Customers are literally insane about trash. it's unbelievable the stress and abuse we have to deal while assisting customers.

The longest calls are sales calls, they don't have a good system for creating new accounts yet, they remove sales incentive because the managers wanted a bigger bonus.

Systems are from what seem the 1980s, black and green DOS based system will eventually drive you insane.

Managers will straight up lie to you when you are new saying there is potential to move up from customer service to account manager or business accounts but they know that's not true. if you ask after your 6 months or year, they will simply laugh and let you know everyone has been waiting for years to move up.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming the "gray area" of the rules you have established and take some responcibility for your work place, seems once you earned a little bit of senoirty you stopped caring and only work hard enough to not get fired.

Example, this christmas season we could not service an entire neighborhood for 3 weeks, and we had no idea what to tell the customers, needless to say , they were not happy.

I have been working at Waste Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    ·Same schedule
    ·Low employee contribution to insurance
    ·Gym & cafe
    ·Employee referral bonus
    ·Commissioned positions
Overall I am a lt employee and happy with my position. Work is repetitious & becomes easy as time goes on.
Referral bonuses for bringing a new employee in is $500.
Clean facility. Small but nice gym. Cafe is bland and overpriced. Switch up the menu more!
You take a variety of inbound calls setting up, cancelling accounts. Explaining billing. Reviewing service errors.

    Cons

Starting pay for everything customer service entails is low in my opinion.
Thirteen & change to begin. Low annual raises. I'm talking less than .50 cents a year increase.
Residential reps do not earn commission whereas Commercial reps do. That coupled with low raises is a reason to move on from residential once you are able to.
There is no confidentiality. NONE. Not in HR. Not in management. So it's best to mind your business.
Work can be demanding. Middle of the month is always busy as billing processes.

    Advice to Management

    Hire management from within.
    Drop the dress code.
    Make employees feel more appreciated.
    Open door policy.
    Create an environment of trust.
Lax the stats even just by a bit.
Allow employees to have occurrences fall off by working ot.

I worked at Waste Management (More than a year)

    Pros

Definitely learned something new every day. For me, working in this position was a shift from my previous career. I got to tackle something new and master it, however, a lot of this was done on my own due to lack of support from other individuals in the office to assist with onboarding.

    Cons

Lack of onboarding new managers, lack of caring for drivers as people and not commodities (sometimes, not always), long hours with little recognition for effort put in, and low chance for improving/increasing financial compensation.

    Advice to Management

Learn your employee's strengths, cater to those, and be honest about weaknesses. Two weeks prior to my departure with the organization, I had a mid-year review. I was informed I was doing well, and being considered for a promotion. Not two weeks later was I asked to leave (helps that I planned on it anyway!) because I was informed there were instances of "unprofessionalism". News to me! I feel if that was the case, then why did that not come up in my mid-year review as a point for me to focus on improving?

Management needs to understand that some individuals, including myself, have high integrity and morality. In instances when those individuals do not agree with a situation that involves integrity and morality, you should probably hear them out instead of glazing over because you're looking at profitability and not the human beings who are working for you.
