I have been working at Waters

    Pros

work/life balance, systems are in place, culture is supportive and focused on development, really a great place to work and everyone here stays FOREVER. There are many people you bump into that have been with the company 10, 15, 20+ years regularly.

    Cons

None I can say. The location can be a little rough, but there is a lot of flexibility with time and work from home

I have been working at Waters full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Excellent compensation & benefits, great work/life balance, friendly people, casual atmosphere, shared goals, great products, on-site gyms & other benefits. Outside of Boston, so you can avoid the traffic.

    Cons

There is not a lot of support for new employees. Some disorganized communication.

    Advice to Management

Check out www.greatplacetowork.com to get an idea on how to effectively survey your employees as well as potentially get voted as a "Best Place to Work" to attract quality candidates from the Boston area. This truly is a great place to work and having that as a distinction for people outside of the company would help fill the positions that we have open/attract more job seekers. Also, it would be great to have the HR people reach out and meet with the new employees from time to time to answer questions and feel more supported.

I have been working at Waters full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Filled with some of the brightest scientists and engineers I've ever had the pleasure of working with - Lots of autonomy (in my role at least) - Excellent training - Stability - Solid 401k match - Good location (not in Boston!)

    Cons

    - Poor compensation package (mediocre salary, NO BONUS, no equity-ownership opportunities) - Laughable vacation time (2 weeks until you hit 10yrs of service, then you get one more! Woohoo!) - Poor work life balance (very long hours, no flexibility on schedule, no opportunities to work from home) - Too many "lifers" are stuck in their old ways and insist on dragging down the business - Tenure is rewarded over results - No real career growth opportunities - Medical benefits are sub-par - Too many layers of ineffective management - Innovation gets lots of lip service, but in practice, real innovation is stifled - No accountability, no one seems to have any authority to actually drive change - Antiquated systems (software, IT, etc)

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring in clueless Harvard MBA's as senior management to tell us how to run our business. They have NO idea the unique challenges and opportunities our business faces. These people have literally ZERO experience in the analytical instrumentation industry. Reward people for their results, not the number of years they've spent "butt-in-chair". Stop prioritizing shareholders over customers, employees, or the quality of our products.

I have been working at Waters full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Waters as a whole is great: two gyms, two cafeterias, good coworkers, innovative products, pay is fair, work life balance

    Cons

Inside chemistry sales quickly went to telemarketing and lead qualifying. New management has no tenure or science background. Limited product and sales training. Micromanagement. High turnover. Tenure in other groups is 10+ year so little room for growth outside.

    Advice to Management

Understand the position’s day-to-day better, listen to those opening up about suggesions, have a science background

I have been working at Waters full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Waters provides a good work life balance, which they advertise as one of their employee benefits.

    Cons

Senior execs seem detached from their employees. The work/life balance is a trade off for average salary and other benefits.
