I worked at Wayne State full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Full-time position has health insurance and other benefits.

    Cons

Financial Aid Officer is the lowest pay in the entire department. The FAO's have the highest turnover rate of any job I have ever seen due to low morale & unmanageable work load. Unreasonable expectations set by management with absolutely no training given and even less support! One-stop welcome center concept is a joke. By the time students get back to see a FAO, they are very frustrated and have been back several times & told to "allow for processing time." The job of FAO is a contracted one, with management deciding whether to renew your contract or not, with a maximum of 5 years. Worst place to work, ever. Run while you can!

    Advice to Management

Need all new management. They are a closed-door group that only promotes from within their old, white female friend group. Higher ups don't care at all about this nepotism & going-out-drinking culture. Ridiculous.

I worked at Wayne State full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Grant work is rewarding and exciting. Feeling of helping to better society. Colleagues were friendly and helpful. Covered parking and security.

    Cons

Dictatorship. Locked out of common areas i.e. lunch room during lunch hours, department library, 'other tasks' included janitorial tasks, management is not trustworthy and disrespectful.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be transparent, respectful and create a trustworthy environment. Listen to staff and treat them as people not hired help that is disposable.

I worked at Wayne State (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working at Wayne State University provides an abundance of good sound employment opportunity's. The opportunity is surpassed, only by the beautiful college environment right in the middle of the Metro Detroit Area.

I could go on for hours about the University, ranked 43 out of over 400 national institutions of higher learning, for research. Competence and professionalism are hallmarks of the faculty. So, be you faculty, staff or students you can't go wrong at Wayne State.

    Cons

A couple pet peeves of mine while employed there was at peak rush hour periods, mobility can be difficult. It can be difficult logistically when it snows over 6 inches. Those are minor complaints considering the magnitude of the University's responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!
