I have been working at Wayne State part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Advancement, many positions to move to, great work atmosphere and environment.

    Cons

Union employee and the bumping system results in bad employees pushing the good ones out because of seniority.

I worked at Wayne State full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good facilities, union, nice campus and good facilities

    Cons

Overly bureaucratic, union, lack of funding for conference travel & minor research costs. Too much power in administrative positions and too little in the hands of the faculty as a whole, or as a department.

    Advice to Management

Cut some administration and focus more on what matters. Don't expect all faculty in all departments to get outside research funding -- it's a pipe dream, not practical in many fields, and not a reasonable expectation.

I worked at Wayne State part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours and a chance to brush up on people skills. Learned a lot about the university, as well as learning how to deal with crowds of people

    Cons

Not too much room for growth and pay was a little less than to be desired.
Management also changes fairly frequently so new policies and rules can be added at the drop of a hat.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Wayne State part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Daily exposure to print media, Client interaction, and corporate level design and branding standards. Really relaxed schedule—you basically get to pick your shift during the open hours. The sense of community is also strong, Expect weekly rundowns with the other designers to figure out what is working, what we all can do to reduce stress, and how we can be more efficient. A lot of technical design practice, Management is really nice and understanding as well.

    Cons

Maxed at 20 hours a week due to student status, and it's not enough on its own to afford midtown Detroit. Client oriented work, so do not expect to create anything groundbreaking or experimental, it's much more design than it is art.

    Advice to Management

Put more trust into the designers here, we want this place to grow. Other than that you guys are awesome!
