I worked at Weaver full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

co-workers and clients are great to work with and very down to earth people

    Cons

Constant review cycles are supposed to let you know where you stand... until they don't. How can you go through 3 consistent review cycles all with very high remarks and then get fired out of the blue with no explanation?

    Advice to Management

Don't just say that you are 'open and willing to listen to lower level employees'... actually listen and try to hear what they are saying.

    I worked at Weaver full-time

    Pros

Decent pay, great clients. That's it

    Cons

Toxic work environment full of passive aggressive partners and managers. They are quick to smile in your face and talk horribly about you to the whole department. There are a few gems in the rough but those are typically not the "in crowd" This crowd consists of the controlling partners mainly one female partner leading the way with gossip and scare tactics. You become part of the "in crowd" by being a doormat and not making any waves. The turnover is ridiculous because of the environment. They push work life balance but of you work from home you are talked badly about. Evaluations are a part of the popularity contest and often reflect which crowd you belong to. This company doesn't care about you shows in their "insurance" which is only as good as the paper it is printed on.

    Advice to Management

Do what you say you are going to do. Grow a heart and try not to be so vindictive and evil.

I worked at Weaver full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Much more reasonable work-life balance than Big 4; I can count on one hand how many 70+ hour weeks I worked over a 5+ year period at Weaver. I regularly worked this much at a Big 4 firm.

Much smaller clients than Big 4 (may have 15 audit engagements per year, compared to 2-3 at a Big 4 firm). This is good and bad. It's much different than working at a Big 4 firm where you may be working on a single audit area for a week or longer. Most of Weaver's audits will last 2-3 weeks in total. Their clients are generally not very sophisticated, so you'll be working on the same standard audit areas on almost every audit. However, you'll get to work on many more of them much quicker than at a Big 4 firm, and you'll get experience drafting financial statements very early on.

Good client atmosphere - most clients are much smaller, and have a single location. Many of these clients have had Weaver as an Audit/ Tax firm for years, and therefore want to have a good relationship with you. You're still an auditor, but you will be less hated by the clients at this firm than you would at a Big 4 firm.

Much less competitive than Big 4. I could see this as a huge benefit for somebody that wants to ride things out to Partner. Making Partner at a Big 4 firm is next to impossible; however, if you have a Big 4 level of dedication to work, and go work for Weaver, you will likely be very successful there.

Good work culture [for those that fit the mold]

    Cons

Won't get much SEC client experience, and therefore this is not as good 'resume fluff' as it would be working at a Big 4 firm. Big 4 are globally recognized and obviously have more clout, and therefore if you're looking to transition into industry later down the road, it will likely be more beneficial to have Big 4 on your resume.

Audit team size - this can be a positive or a negative I suppose, but the Weaver audit teams will generally be 2-4 people in size. This can be much different than a Big 4 audit team with 10-20 members of the audit team. Teams will be much less diverse than they would be at a Big 4 firm; again, this could be a good and a bad thing.

Pay/ bonuses generally lower than a Big 4 or top 10 firm

    Advice to Management

In this industry, your employees are highly educated, and most are willing to kill themselves for your organization. Don't continue the status quo of the traditional comp/ benefits. This is the most profitable industry in the United States. Partners, please share those profits with the people that are making your firm successful.

I have been working at Weaver full-time

    Pros

Some great people who deserve much better than they get! That's a about all the good I have to say.

    Cons

Upper management for the most part has zero integrity! Will lie if it serves their purpose, very cutthroat! Not all people are created equal at Weaver. They walk around like Gods playing with people's lives. Only one person in the Human Resources has the proper education to be doing their job! Client services Is some of the worse that I have ever seen.

    Advice to Management

Get over yourself get some integrity, tell the truth realize you have no clue what you're doing! They won't take any advise because they are to arrogant! Treat your employees like they deserve to be treated. Stop trying to be one of the big four. Focus on what you have, instead of putting on a dog & pony show.

I worked at Weaver full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Variety of projects, partners are approachable. tons of restaurants option in downtown Fort Worth

    Cons

Health insurance is utterly useless, I paid cash for doctors and medicine as it was way cheaper! family deductible for the affordable premium plans is over 13K a year! Managers and seniors are awful, no one smiles at your face or even returns a simple hi! they promise flexibility but you will not be allowed to telecommute as you have to be "visible" plus you are required to work in the office on Saturdays during the busy season! if you have little kids and you can't find a babysitter then your whole family would be coming to the office with you on Saturdays! coming from another firm, you will feel that you stepped back to the 70s way of management.

    Advice to Management

Coach your managers on how to treat staff, treat your employees the way you treat your best clients. Health insurance is very important to people and you can get way better insurance for your staff. Firms are competing to get talents and you are losing talents because you will not be flexible with your employees.

    Pros

Partners are approachable and responsive. I have been shown respect as a marketer, which never happened in my previous Big 4/Second Tier firm experience.

    Cons

Growing pains will persist. Some infrastructure not keeping up with growth. But then again, growth is a good problem to have.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing to improve infrastructure. Continue to grow and compete.

I have been working at Weaver as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly, very friendly. Laid back, and the people are wonderful.

    Cons

"Bean counter" decisions per IT, they're not making wise decisions about proactive IT investment.

    Advice to Management

You can't run a shop your size without custom software,off-the-shelf alone won't work, contract only personnel are not vested vs.full-timers, raise the bar per *competing* with IT, there's more to it than just infrastructure/support.
