The Best Internship Experience I Could Ask For

Aug 17, 2020 - Consumer PR Intern in New York, NY

      Pros

Weber's consumer department is filled with wonderful smart and driven people. Everyone is a joy to work with and be around and the 3PM (AB) team was the absolute best. Plus, awesome perks like a free coffee bar and happy hour every Friday. I miss working there and would go back in a heartbeat!

      Cons

Long hours and hard work, but incredibly rewarding and completely worth it.

      An OK experience

      Pros

Having direct contact with, reporting to, and working alongside VPs and SVPs teaches you a lot! It is a great experience to be present in meetings and calls with other senior employees.

      Cons

It is quite obvious that most teams do not like having inters present. You work long hours - your overtime does not get approved but you still need to do it to complete the work you were assigned. You are paid minimum wage, work overtime and don't get paid for it. Also, don't expect to get hired. You are told as an intern that you have a good chance of getting hired but that is not the case.

TOXIC Work Environment in finance department

Jul 14, 2019 - Anonymous Employee in Los Angeles, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Nice office, happy hour, company culture

      Cons

HUGE turnover in finance department in LA office because of unprofessional, abusive, disrespectful management. You feel constantly under attack. Stress levels are incredibly high and the office environment is toxic. Management of the department is constantly hunting for reasons to find fault in employees, point fingers and shows zero trust. Hard work and long hours are demanded and no matter how hard you work, it is NEVER appreciated. Employees are constantly told that their efforts are not enough. Morale is low, everyone is unhappy and new employees quit within few months.

      Going downhill

      Pros

Some smart people left on leadership team, but most have jumped ship.

      Cons

GM is a terrible fit with little to no PR experience. Poor pay, long hours (which is standard at agencies). Weak professional development opportunities.

Skip This Place On Your Way To The Top

      Pros

It's a job. You can learn something there, depending on your level. If you're junior, you can excel as long as you do nothing that intimidates the leaders.

      Cons

Extremely long hours, lots of busy work that doesn't amount to driving results within an often sexist environment --against both women and men depending on who likes who. Very sorority-like. Lots of favoritism for people who have been there for a while, whether they're good or not. They freely admit that anyone with experience who comes there often doesn't stay long, because WS Chicago makes its own rules, many that don't have much to do with the real PR world. It could be nice place to work, but not without major changes in leadership.

      May be better now

      Pros

I worked with and under some really great people.

      Cons

Pressure, long hours, rude/demanding clients and unsympathetic upper management... but that might have changed since I left.
