I have been working at Weill Cornell Medical College full-time

    Pros

Great place to learn quickly new technologies. Tons of seminars and networking events to attend to. Easy to build up collaborations.

    Cons

High turnover. Poor benefits for non-faculty. It's not a good place for career development. Salaries are not adequate to live in New York City.

    Advice to Management

I am enjoying my time at Weill Cornell and with my colleagues. However, I do wish there were more opportunities for career development. Good employees should be rewarded, and not kept in the shade.

I have been working at Weill Cornell Medical College full-time

    Pros

    1. Bustling life sciences research environment
    2. Easy to find research collaborations in Tri-I area
    3. OK benefits, insurance. etc.

    Cons

    1. Administration is a bit of a mess, takes a very long time to get reimbursements and other administrational processes done.
    2. Older buildings (like 1300 York) don't have state-of-the-art equipment like newer ones (Belfer)--very different environments when research expectations are the same.

I have been working at Weill Cornell Medical College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Weill Cornell Medical College gives you essential laboratory experience for future endeavors in science. Working as an associate technician at Weill Cornell for a couple of years has afforded me many opportunities to pursue better positions in other places.

    Cons

It can be difficult to live in New York City with the salary that is offered as a research technician. Many coworkers have to live far away from work to manage their finances effectively.

    Advice to Management

I have enjoyed my time at Weill Cornell and the supervisors have fostered a very welcoming environment. However, I do wish there were more opportunities to improve my compensation and benefits package.

I have been working at Weill Cornell Medical College full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good institutional reputation
    - Great working environment
    - Good networking and training opportunities

    Cons

    - The salaries in other institutions are higher for similar positions, they stick to the NIH minimum
    - The core facilities could improve their accessibility and performance with dedicated techs

    Advice to Management

A postdoc that doesn't ask for a salary update because he/she is earning more than the minimum established by NIH is a happy postdoc

I have been working at Weill Cornell Medical College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Highly collaborative research environments (Weill Cornell, MSKCC, and Rockefeller). We have access to all kinds of advanced research equipments and resources. And rich resources for translational research.

    Cons

It is not unique to Weill Cornell but low salary of postdoc job and high demand at work for competitive research outputs.

I worked at Weill Cornell Medical College full-time

    Pros

Great stepping stone for those interested in pursuing a career in the medicine. Good clinical research experience.

    Cons

There is obviously a power struggle between the JCTO management folks and the physicians. It's hard to get promoted within the office itself.

    Advice to Management

keep the good coordinators around by treating them nicely. Seek the physicians feedback.
