I worked at Welcome House full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you want to aid the homeless.

    Cons

Organization tells people that those making less than a certain amount cannot afford Fair Market Housing prices. Yet they pay their direct service people less than that amount. The turnover is astounding. And employees are fired for physical disabilities - which is legally questionable.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to pay your employees a living wage and work with those with health issues.

I have been working at Welcome House full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Getting to help societies most oppressed. Hearing the history behind all my clients. Getting to see clients succeed knowing you played part in the success. Not a typical office job at all.

    Cons

There are a lot of stresses to being case manager and working with the homeless. Must be able to rebuild a lot of people lives from the bottom up. You will have lazy client who will cause you distress and dislike you for forceful motivation. There are times when i can only do so much.
