I have been working at WellCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Mission. Local Community Support. Member facing Associates are phenomenal, good pay.

    Cons

Lack of Career Development, preferential treatment, no work-life balance, burn/churn management mentality.

    Advice to Management

Middle/Upper Management needs evaluation on skills. Manage/Train up or out. A Servent based management style would be advantageous and would go a long way to stem rampant turnover.

I have been working at WellCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, and work life balance.

    Cons

Evaluation system seems to confuse management and creates a political nightmare (it's not what you achieved but did you please my boss . Office politics create a toxic work environment. Promotions are popularity based rather than merit or potential based leading all the wrong people to hold all of the power and influence in the company.

    Advice to Management

Your boss is not always right and sometimes they need to know it and the "why". Learn to do what's right for the business even when it makes you uncomfortable or is unfamiliar.

I have been working at WellCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most co-workers are an absolute pleasure to work with.
    Pay is slightly above average.
    Work hours are satisfactory.
    Benefits package is pretty good.

    Cons

The leadership and recruiters responsible to selecting and placing qualified associates are very unethical in this process.

    EXAMPLE:

    Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; College degree preferred
5 years of progressively responsible directly related experience in claims
Strong communication skills with Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and/or Excel
Ability to manage team leaders and other subordinates

    INTERNAL APPLICANT EXPERIENCE:

    6-courses remaining for Bachelors
Vocational Certifications in Human Resource Principles, Communications and Emergency Management
    High School Diploma
8 years management and/or team leader experience
10 years training and development experience
10 years creating Standard Operating Procedures
4.5 years with the company with extensive experience in claims, member and provider relations
    Exceeds quality scoring expectations

    SELECTED INTERNAL APPLICANT

    High School Diploma or Associates
3 to 7 years with company
2 to 4 years in same role with no leadership responsibility or current team leader or less than 2 years
Friend of or personally liked by hiring manager

    Advice to Management

Wellcare continues to struggle with our Star Rating because we have leaders in place that do not promote those with apparent and applicable experience. This is a culture that is dedicated to inequitably promoting their employees. Not only do the hiring managers select less qualified applicants they also do not provide feedback to the rejected applicants.

When you have highly skilled, well-educated and greatly experienced internal employees and they cannot get past the recruiting phase there is something drastically wrong. When they make it to an interview only to be rejected and then to be given no feedback there is something drastically wrong. To be told they were not selected because someone else was more qualified only to discover the person has less than half of their relevant and applicable experience; again there is something wrong.

If this is our Wellcare leadership treats their greatest asset; their employees there is no surprise we struggle to keep the minimum 3-start rating. But if these practices continue and someone decides to pursue EEOC for being rejected for a position they are qualified for and then the role stays open due to "no qualified applicants"; this is going to cause problems for the company.

Give a true chance for your internals to grow at their own pace! Stop limiting their growth or career options because you do not "know" them. This is not a popularity contest. This is a person's well-being and ability to provide for their families. Do right by your employees and they will do right by the customer.
