    Pros

WellCare is a great company. They are very encouraging when it comes to pushing forward and moving on in the company. They do team builders to help with the morale. The VP and the director for claims have an open door policy, which is great. You also have the ability to work from home after your production is where it needs to be.

    Cons

Within the department you definitely feel like you don't have the chance to show what you can do. Some of the supervisors don't show an ounce of empathy when you have a personal emergency. At times they aren't flexible at all. There is also a lot favoritism. You can do your job and your production could be where it needs to be, but they look right past what you can and have done and pick someone that they want to move up.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to talking to your employees about what they would like accomplish within the company. Make the time to listen to them. I understand that as a supervisor and a manager things get very hectic, but it's important to speak to those to see what can be done to make the environment better.

I have been working at WellCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most co-workers are an absolute pleasure to work with.
    Pay is slightly above average.
    Work hours are satisfactory.
    Benefits package is pretty good.

    Cons

The leadership and recruiters responsible to selecting and placing qualified associates are very unethical in this process.

    EXAMPLE:

    Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required; College degree preferred
5 years of progressively responsible directly related experience in claims
Strong communication skills with Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and/or Excel
Ability to manage team leaders and other subordinates

    INTERNAL APPLICANT EXPERIENCE:

    6-courses remaining for Bachelors
Vocational Certifications in Human Resource Principles, Communications and Emergency Management
    High School Diploma
8 years management and/or team leader experience
10 years training and development experience
10 years creating Standard Operating Procedures
4.5 years with the company with extensive experience in claims, member and provider relations
    Exceeds quality scoring expectations

    SELECTED INTERNAL APPLICANT

    High School Diploma or Associates
3 to 7 years with company
2 to 4 years in same role with no leadership responsibility or current team leader or less than 2 years
Friend of or personally liked by hiring manager

    Advice to Management

Wellcare continues to struggle with our Star Rating because we have leaders in place that do not promote those with apparent and applicable experience. This is a culture that is dedicated to inequitably promoting their employees. Not only do the hiring managers select less qualified applicants they also do not provide feedback to the rejected applicants.

When you have highly skilled, well-educated and greatly experienced internal employees and they cannot get past the recruiting phase there is something drastically wrong. When they make it to an interview only to be rejected and then to be given no feedback there is something drastically wrong. To be told they were not selected because someone else was more qualified only to discover the person has less than half of their relevant and applicable experience; again there is something wrong.

If this is our Wellcare leadership treats their greatest asset; their employees there is no surprise we struggle to keep the minimum 3-start rating. But if these practices continue and someone decides to pursue EEOC for being rejected for a position they are qualified for and then the role stays open due to "no qualified applicants"; this is going to cause problems for the company.

Give a true chance for your internals to grow at their own pace! Stop limiting their growth or career options because you do not "know" them. This is not a popularity contest. This is a person's well-being and ability to provide for their families. Do right by your employees and they will do right by the customer.

I have been working at WellCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a newbie, I've been blown away by this organization. My manager has scheduled a series of onboarding meetings with me so that I can succeed at defining and achieving my goals within the corporate structure. Most of my co-workers seem to appreciate their jobs.

    Cons

Conditions depend on where you work. Some are in the corporate center, others are farmed out to sterile office complexes and others get window views near Tampa Bay.

    Advice to Management

You're on the right track. Don't let recent success make us complacent.
