I worked at WellPoint full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Compensated with raises and bonuses for going above-and-beyond. Work quality was closely monitored.
    2. Great organization and communication within my team.

    Cons

The negative impression others (and sometimes myself) have of managed care. It is a necessary evil, but not like ministering to the poor or working to cure cancer.

    Advice to Management

None, my management team was amazing.

I worked at WellPoint full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employer matches employee contributions to 401Ks, tuition reimbursement, bonus incentive programs for meeting goals, EAP/FLP, ergonomic workstations, some work at home opportunities available. Better rhan average wages. Some locations offer on-site gyms.

    Cons

Pressure to maintain high number of case reviews with extreme accuracy; monthly audits, team leads work at home made it difficult to receive timely assistance, reviews sent to physicians completed by non medical "analysts" which somethimes made case closure continuity of decision analysis difficult to track. Overseas reviews consistantly not done on a timely basis resulting in late payments/fines.

    Advice to Management

The decision to outsouese claims review to the Philippines becauae wages are cheaper and lay off hundreda of nurses stateside to increase profit margins turned out to be penny-wise but pound foolish, as the amounts of the fines on some of the cases doubled the billed amount to be paid on many of them. Stricter oversight needed to push aged claims to be reviewed on a more timely basis either there or stateside.

I worked at WellPoint full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I ended up by chance in Medicare sales support--and this turned out to be a good place for growth at the time

    Cons

I found the culture to be very conservative and top-down, with little sense of innovation or openness to change. The corporate culture is probably easier for women to deal with than men--since the percentage of females in the company is around 70% or even slightly higher.

    Advice to Management

Make better hiring decisions for upper management positions. Hire more men!

I worked at WellPoint as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management treats employees respectfully. Nice Facility. Great Lunch Café. Security in Parking lot.

    Cons

Need more parking spaces for employees. Small lot and many employees have to park on the street, but street has parking time limits, so employees have to move cars on breaks.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I worked at WellPoint full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Health insurance for employees comes in handy.

    Cons

Hr doesn't care about employees and protects crappy managers.

    Advice to Management

You should care and treat your employees better at the end of the day they're representing you. Also adding on to ones work load without an increase in hourly pay is unacceptable.
It's very nice to have a rep that is capable of doing work for different departments without paying them more right smh!

    Pros

Great Benefits and chances to move up with the company. Can apply internally to different positions in different departments.

    Cons

Call Center very micro managed. Would mess up your average handle time if you use the restroom often. Work can be very stressful on some days.

    Pros

    Good work/life balance
    Decent compensation
Flexible working arrangements ability to work from home.

    Cons

    High level of turnover
Management not sure of the future
Culture of fear regarding consistant large scale layoffs
    Difficult to advance
    Inconsistant leadership
    Disengaged workforce
    Silo'd culture

    Advice to Management

Individual sales needs to get its act together begining at the top. Health care reform will have a negative impact on this organization. Confidence is low with leadership for the future of this organization.

    Pros

The pay scale is good and opportunities to advance in the profession.

    Cons

The employee health benefits are not as good as you would expect.

    Advice to Management

To remember that all employees do have a life outside of the company. Things happen where we cannot always give all the overtime that is asked/required.
