I have been working at WellPoint full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    5K per year educational benefit.
    many deprtments offer work-at-home

    Cons

paranoid managers ,in some department, practicing dark leadership
    abysmal internal promotion recruitment record
    very convaluted management structure

    Advice to Management

make hiring within if at all possible a priority. Having to leave the company to use the graduate degree Wellpoint paid for is disappointing. Some managers are paranoid of those employees who surpass them educationally-making work conditions unpleasant and unbearable. After fifteen years I am considering moving on.

I worked at WellPoint full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Other employees made the time here enjoyable. Flexible work arrangements and competitive benefits.

    Cons

Will hire managers with no experience to lead seasoned employees causing internal conflicts.Work-life balance is touted but not obtainable. In a leadership or salaried position you will run the risk of burn out by attempting to keep up with the demands of a dept.

    Pros

Flexible work-at-home work environment; knowledgeable subject matter experts; great medical benefits; competitive salary; provides in-house training courses and opportunities

    Cons

PMO Office is constrictive to employees who thrive within an entrepreneurship environment; management tends to micro-manage employees and projects; limiting career advancement opportunities; lack of bandwidth for project subject matter experts

    Advice to Management

Lead through more empowerment of project managers; provide more career advancement and career development; less micro management; provide more team building opportunities - specifically with teams managed remotely and virtually

I worked at WellPoint full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Thrived under good management
Customer focused, ethical and diversified business
    Dedicated and experienced employees
    Fair benefits and compensation package

    Cons

    Suffered under bad management
Abusive, threatening and lacking work-life balance
    Non-existent professional development

    Advice to Management

Employees like me care and work hard. We should not have to suffer the slings and slights every day that abusive managers like to dole out and we should be allowed to take time off to care for ourselves when we are ill especially. Overall, I would have stayed if this had been the case. Also would have been so much more motivated if the environment promoted respect, collaboration and opportunities for personal and professional development.

    Pros

Work at home opportunites, good salary, OK benefits

    Cons

Frequent layoffs, outsourcing, no work life balance, high stress, constant change of direction. Company has greatly reduced benefits over last few years.

    Advice to Management

Realize that your greatest assets are good employees and treat them well. It feels like we are all just a number at WellPoint and we have the reputation of being a sweat shop

    Pros

Very flexible in work hours and work location. Support for self-development and information sharing.
Encourgages new ideas. Acts on employee recommendations to improve the work.Senior leadership communicates company direction well. Movement to support plain language.in communication.

    Cons

Project management methodology is cumbersome, changes without adequate input from the PM in the trenches, and changes are too frequent. Too much variation in the methods, templates, and techniques employed to manage a project. Too frequent organizational changes ... impossible to keep up with.

    Advice to Management

We really need to be more aggressive in the support for plain language, both internally and externally... especially in the project management arena. Project managers are the central contact for the nvestmenet priority work that we do. As a PM, I still see an insame amount of reports, templates, and specialized lingo in out methodology that leads to a lot of confusion and aggravation.

    Pros

Telecommuting is a standard for them and it's nice to not to have to commute to work daily!

    Cons

They have entirely too many initiatives going on at one time and too much overhead administrative requirements to get your job done, too many Chiefs and no Indians!

    Advice to Management

Understand how to properly staff your organization and eliminate all the executive overhead which stop the workers from working because they require 1000 reports that they don't read

    Pros

Progressive cutting edge benefits. There is a lot of job dedication and constant pursuit of improvement. In my area, a lot of well qualified employees. Eventhough the dress code is relaxed, the professionalism is not diminished.

    Cons

Very large company. Very little opportunity to stand out. No formal training program for those who enter in non entry level positions. Management does not have the patience to take the time necessary to assist with helping new associates navigating their way.

    Advice to Management

First priority should be give all staff the opportunity to succeed. Passive aggressive behavior and posturing is disruptive to a productive environment.
