I have been working at WellSpan Health part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Management is wonderful!! The company leadership is very committed to making this a company that really does work as one to improve patient care and I feel as if they really do care about the patient's that they care for and also for their employees. Benefits are great for employees!!!

    Cons

I really have not experienced any cons while working for this company. The work schedule can increase at times of high patient census, but that is really to be expected in order to give excellent patient care with medical records that are ready and up-to-date for caregivers to review when making medical decisions for their patients.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your are doing!!! I have enjoyed my time working for WellSpan Health and would recommend this company to anyone looking for work in the medical field.

I have been working at WellSpan Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, I've been here over 10 years and plan on staying. They have a 4 tier clinical ladder to encourage masters prepared nurses to remain clinical.

    Cons

Poor succession planning. Minimal leadership training we also do a poor job of advertising our successes. Publicity in general is poor

    Advice to Management

Support internal nurses that want to advance.

I worked at WellSpan Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits package is awesome - but I recently started getting collections notices in the mail for things that should have been sent to my insurance. I called the insurance company and they said they didn't accept the bill because there was a form missing that I didn't know about (because, telepathy?) So wellspan can't even get that right.

    Cons

1- Management and leadership home grown from wellspan who are uneducated, not qualified, and incompetent. Any other viewpoint is seen as a threat and vehemently opposed. They then spend huge amounts of energy to protect themselves and save their ego while patients continue being hurt. No home grown wellspanner ever gets fired - they waste obscene amounts of money creating positions and moving people around to keep the incompetent protected. The best way to get promoted here is to disastrously fail at the job you are currently doing.

2- Patient care is atrocious and they care more about their own feelings/egos than doing the right thing. Providers are protected to a fault and celebrated for giving dangerous care. Nursing has no voice and are at a loss on the front lines watching harm happen and unable to do anything about it. Nurses are miserable, have no support, and their care and attitude is a result of this.

3- If you are an outsider, there is a target on you. If you are a minority or woman, forget it.

    Advice to Management

Bring in educated, experienced professionals and let them do their jobs. Listen to them!!! Stop promoting from within. The people who created this dumpster fire can not help you. Attitude change starts at the top. When a president stands at the front of a room putting down other organizations, calling them names, and talking about wellspan with rose colored glasses, he isn't doing anyone any favors. Outcomes are horrific and they won't get better until leadership is honest about it. There's a storm coming and calling other presidents names and putting down the competition is not an effective method to mitigate that challenge. Wellspan has a tremendous amount of work ahead of them if they want to stay afloat and I'm not sure if they realize that.
