    Not much career progression.

I worked at Wellcome Trust full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of perks and benefits to working for the Wellcome Trusts

    Cons

I felt all my skills were not ustilised in the role I was in.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you are getting the full potential out of your employees

I have been working at Wellcome Trust full-time

    Pros

One of the best organisations to work for in terms of mission
Really, or mostly friendly staff and there is a lovely atmosphere even with the canteen staff
Big staff meeting where everyone gets to know what is going on - very useful

    Cons

Badly managed, seem to recruit managers from outside that have no clue.
    Manager was a bully
Get used to the word "strategy"
Preferential treatment given to some staff
Slowly but surely the cost cutting exercise will wear everyone down
Big changes happening but it all takes a long time
Very bureaucratic, there's an approval process for wiping ones back hole
Lot of egos and people wanting promotions when there are no jobs

    Advice to Management

Bullying is not acceptable. HR department seem to be busy and wince at anything that is an issue that needs to be sorted from the start. Managers need a bit more training. A lot of inappropriate comments and behaviour that seems to be skimmed over. HR sides with management. Always.

I have been working at Wellcome Trust part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most people are hard working but you are not expected to do unpaid work (at least in the teams I have been in)

    Cons

No career progression, pay is on the low side for many roles

I worked at Wellcome Trust full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing cause and potential to do incredible things. Smart staff with plenty of passion. All the perks (if you liked the 90s).

    Cons

Slow, tired, process-driven and confused about direction of travel. Mixed messages, no guts or gusto. No campaign, no position. Divisive and political in every corner. Smoke and mirrors / cloak and dagger.

    Advice to Management

Pick a problem (just one) and try and solve it. You can't do it all. Something has to go. We are all grown ups and placating the rich and powerful is getting us nowhere. Show some leadership and trim the fat.
