I worked at Wells Fargo as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was a contractor for five months and change at Wells Fargo Advisors in St. Louis, that thing that used to be Wachovia that got absorbed into the greater Wells Fargo whole. There is clearly budget to burn there. If you are a contractor there you won't be expected to do too much, so if you don't care about doing good work and you just want to milk it, this is the place for you. On the team I was on there was budget for eight and then we were pair programming on everything so we were doing the work of four. The team was ridiculously large, so... three cheers for waste. There is clearly cash to toss about. The team lead would skip work a lot pretending to have a hurt back, so that's another example of the sort of thing you can get away with.

    Cons

I took the contract being told that I would be a part of an Agile team and then, my first week on the job, it was announced that the powers that be couldn't figure out Agile and that instead we would take a Waterfall approach. Some terrible things happened downstream of that decision as you might imagine. Without the usual cadence of an analyst baking stories in advance of development, when things go off the rails it takes longer to notice and longer yet to course correct. The UX point of contract rolled off the project and was replaced by a contractor who was a good designer but didn't really have the political skill to get things approved and then the team I was on fell into a lull of just doing nothing for two months while we waited around for mockups. (That's two months of eight people doing nothing!) I was cut from the team at the end of the lull instead of the beginning of it. I don't know how that makes sense to anyone pinching pennies. Admittedly, this was around the time the project went into red status because another team doing the database side of things was hopelessly behind. Again, no Agile.

    Advice to Management

    Maybe some more oversight guys?

I worked at Wells Fargo full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The stock market has risk for better returns. Understanding market risk is the advisors specialty. Great people!

    Cons

Policies so detailed to remove market risk making compliance micro management stifle business growth. Bank policies limit brokerage growth.

    Advice to Management

Remove bad actors but let the bank be a bank and let brokerage handle market risk for clients.
