I have been working at Welltower full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Welltower has a very meritocratic structure. You will sink or swim based on your abilities.

    Cons

More senior employees tend to lead very busy and challenging lives. This can be overwhelming and off-putting. Why would you want to advance if the next rungs on the ladder are unattractive?

I worked at Welltower full-time for more than a year

    Pros

On paper, largest healthcare REIT, lots of interesting investments. Great people on the internal data/business insights team. National and oversees presence with a good outlook on the healthcare real estate industry. Great place to learn a ton about the industry.

    Cons

Most of the cons of working at a large company apply here. Lack of oversight/initiative from management can silo individuals at the bottom and prevent further growth and development. Top-down communication flow is quite poor; status/position within the firm matters in terms of who has a voice and who is listened to. Lack of recognition from upper management can lower morale at the bottom. Office politics seems to be a big deal here. HR team: Inconsistency and lack of transparency regarding performance evaluation makes it difficult to know what needs to be improved, requires a lot of reading between the lines which can be difficult. Lack of genuine interaction, feel on the fringes and pressured to engage in small talk. Many blanket statements made that seem to look to appease certain employees.

I have been working at Welltower full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Solid company willing to invest, reward, and give opportunities to employees that demonstrate outstanding performance. Great benefits: PTO, Floating Holiday, Insurance, 401K, and an attractive annual bonus to those that add value to the company.

    Cons

Lack of direction and support from management mainly due to work overload. The quality of work is often affected. Quantity is what matters.

I have been working at Welltower full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Working at a nature sanctuary.

    Cons

The self awareness that management sits on your back while being forced to carry them. Executive management (when they speak) assures us that they're the appointed strategic leaders, serve nothing but the interest of Wall Street and wish to ease our concerns and uncertainty...except getting off our backs.

I have been working at Welltower full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

They have tried everything to recruit the best candidates by offering competitive benefits and bonus packages. Hard work is recognized.

    Cons

Changing culture is tough, and it doesn’t happen overnight. The executive team doesn’t seem to have the same vision, not on the same page. The company doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to streamline, automate and become more efficient. They continue to acquire complicated deal structures which makes it nearly impossible to develop consistent policies and procedures.

I have been working at Welltower full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pros and cons are a matter of perspective. Through past experiences, I had come to expect very little from my employers. You came to work, did a job, and went home--it was transactional. That was the norm. To expect anything more was unrealistic. There were occasional employee appreciation events, but they felt more like gimmicks than gratitude. The culture reflected that mindset, and as a result, I felt very little connection to former employers. In comparison, Welltower is in a league of its own. I view my job as an extension of myself and genuinely look forward to coming to work every day. Describing the environment is difficult. It is competitive yet collaborative. It is a place where you can make an impression, regardless of your title. It is supportive and conducive to learning and professional/personal growth. Above all else, it is a place that is amazing because of the people you suit up and work with every day. Welltower has forever changed my perception of what the "work experience" can be. I'm proud and grateful for the opportunity to work here, and encourage anyone interested in the healthcare, real estate, or finance industries to check it out. Or, if you are like I was, and are just looking for more meaningful work.

    Cons

Welltower is one of the flattest organizations I have ever worked for. In one hand, the culture provides opportunities that more siloed and compartmentalized companies could never match--things like challenging work, cross-functional projects, and development opportunities. On the other hand, it's an environment that can be stressful and overwhelming if you let yourself get consumed by the over-abundance of work. It is what you make it.

I worked at Welltower full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Welltower is a good example of what a company should not be. It is everything that Peter Drucker warned business leaders against in his books on management and leadership.

    Cons

While there are too many mention, I will give the top three. 1. Leadership. General managers do nothing to resolve issues between the property management division and the project management division. Vice presidents do nothing to hold general managers accountable. Vice presidents and general managers refuse to talk to their employees. When people in key leadership positions leave the company, it is the responsibility of senior management to fill the voids with temps or to fill in those voids themselves. Instead, management waits indefinitely for a key position to be filled while the organization turns into a hostile work environment. Management does nothing to make sure that employees are properly trained before assuming their positions. Human resources does nothing to verify that managers have trained new employees. 2. Accountability. General contractors do as they please because there is no oversight by the project managers. Contractors leave the tenants irate and the buildings in worse condition, but are rewarded with more contracts. Welltower project mangers do not bother to read the contracts before signing and miss the fine print where the general contractor has stated that there is no warranty for the work being performed. When the contractor has finished with a project, he is given his last check and no punch walk or final punch walk is performed. It is clear that amateurs are at work. 3. No communication. Management deliberately withholds information from its employees. Because of management’s incompetence, it does not want any information to be divulged outside of its circle because the details are very embarrassing.

I have been working at Welltower full-time

    Pros

Enormous opportunity for ambitious professionals who are willing to learn, ask questions, and yes..definitely put in the time. The extremely flat organizational hierarchy provides high visibility and growth potential. Good compensation and benefits

    Cons

Sad to see the Toledo office transition and many of the perks changing. More and more positions being hired in NY is certainly unnerving, however with recent G&A expense reductions in 2017 and 2018, moving the remaining employees at the Toledo office would be counter-intuitive and grossly expensive.
