I have been working at Welltower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Welltower is going through some major transitions. Like any organization, some employees meet this with enthusiasm and others will fight it. This company has perhaps overindulged in its employee benefits in the past, and now that they want to tighten the belt back up some still want to ‘biggy’ size. Gluttony comes in many forms and apparently there are still a few people left here with a large appetite for one’s self. Leaning things out and demanding peak performance is what any smart minded business person would do. This company has its investors at the forefront of each decision it makes, rewarding its employees on the results of the effort put forth. If you know you are performing at peak you will embrace the fact that you are among those likeminded and will engage in the vision they are presenting. Welltower is filled with energy and a team that can take it to the next level.

    Cons

No con. Work hard, get paid. Performance is key and you are rewarded appropriately.

    Advice to Management

Ignore the negative vibe of a few that still live for yesterday. The rest of us see progress and look forward to each tomorrow. To those with the negative outlook: If you have ‘biggy’ sized too long and feel there is not enough left on the plate for you here, I suggest you move on. If you are looking for a rewarding career with an energetic team, I recommend you submit your resume. Not for the sluggish. No free ride here.

    Pros

Great place to work if you love a challenge, want to grow, work hard, and make a difference. If you want to maintain the status quo or "coast," this is not the place for you. The many people that love it here are too busy to spend a lot of time posting on a public site. No organization is perfect. There is always room for improvement. Rather than complain on a public site, speak up and use your time and energy to make change happen from inside the organization.

    Cons

    I don't have any complaints.

I worked at Welltower full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

During my tenure at Welltower the benefits offered were amazing. Compared to the majority of companies who were forced to increase health insurance premiums while reducing coverage, Welltower offered their employees multiple choices for insurance coverage at an affordable out of pocket expense. Teams drastically differ and if you are lucky enough to align with a team whose members aren’t power hungry (few and far between) and want to foster a sense of team you can certainly gain a lot of knowledge.

    Cons

This is a truly toxic work environment and the corporate culture leaves something to be desired. The corporate office is cut throat and I could count on one hand the amount of genuine people I ran into when working there. New employees should not expect to feel welcomed. You will have to go out of your way to become part of your team only have people treat you as though you don’t even belong in the same room as them. As stated in a previous comment it is true that you will go days without anyone stopping by your desk. While there are good people at Welltower the entitlement exuded from some people in this office make those "good" people stick to themselves. If you do not align yourself with the right people from day one this place will be very isolating. Don’t mention any issues about this to HR, they will twist everything to being your fault and will not advocate for you at all.

As the saying goes “No good deed goes unpunished” do not offer to go above and beyond or make a simple offer to assist because it will be taken the wrong way. An innocent offer to help will be viewed as as a threat and/or seen as an attempt to make someone look bad. Even your own self-deprecating comments meant to make someone feel good about themselves is taken the wrong way. Unfortunately people you will work with here are so insecure about their own position and what will happen to their jobs you are best to keep your head down until you can find a way out.

Skills are undervalued and underutilized regardless of your position, who you know and where you got your degree from means more than your work history. If you show interest in a different department or to learn more in an area do not expect anyone to want to give you any work or mentor you even if this benefits the company. It was very clear to me that people some who work here even those who had a long tenure with company were insecure about their positions and this fear for your job mentality infiltrated down from the highest paid employee to the lowest paid employee.

    Advice to Management

A culture shift needs to be made throughout the entire company. The corporate culture fosters a sense of insecurity and fear for employees. The CEO, EVP’s SVP’s etc. would foster a better sense of community and loyalty throughout the company if they lead by example. Take an interest in all employees from top to bottom and show your teams that no task is to menial for you. If the people below you are insecure in their positions, they will make the people under them feel the same. A culture based on genuine, communication, support, mentoring and promoting from within will provide employees with a sense of loyalty that will go a long way in retaining and developing talent within the organization while ensuring a return for shareholders.

I have been working at Welltower full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good health benefits, generous PTO package, yearly bonus and gym reimbursement.

    Cons

Poor salary by $5,000 to $10,000/yr for the workload. Industry standard does not always apply when you are working people 10 to 12 hour days and on call 24/7.

Corporate needs to take a hard look at why a certain region cannot keep good employees. Most of the time people quit Management not Companies. If you have a region that can't keep good talent, something is probably rotting from the head down. When provided pertinent information take it seriously instead of letting it slide.

When and why is it OK to hire your friends? Not once, but two or three times. And some report directly to you. Favoritism abounds and others are expected to suck it up, because HR gave their blessing.

Some individuals don't get their work done, however get away with just a slap on the hand because your friend is in a position to control this. Others face much worse consequences.

The comment from someone else about cliques is Oh So True. Not just in the Corporate offices, but the regions as well.

Welltower is more interested in their bottom line for the investors rather than their employee satisfaction. It's a fine line, and one Welltower is missing the mark on.

If Welltower wants to save money stop with the private planes, private drivers, paying for alcohol at events and when traveling, and be stricter with how much traveling is being done. Some individuals are constantly traveling. But is it really necessary or do they want this opportunity to hang out with their friends and party and drink on the company dime. Totally out of control. But when you have "friends" approving everything why not spend someone else's money. It's all about who you know.

There are also inappropriate relationships happening while traveling between single and married individuals. And it's so apparent.

We need more maintenance guys in the field and they need to be provided with work trucks/vans. The government mileage stipend doesn't begin to cover the wear and tear on personal vehicles.

Welltower you should be ashamed of your latest idea to charge tenants for the Capital Improvements to YOUR property, and not be transparent about it. Billing it as CAM expense, but no separate line item stating it's CAP Expense unless the tenant specifically asks for a breakdown. You call it a business decision. You can spin it how you want, but if you expect transparency in your business dealings with others don't you think you should respect our tenants in the same way.

Let's not forget the Kingsley Survey. Your expectations of 5's across the board in every category is out of touch with reality. We cannot control others behavior or work ethic that attribute to the survey. Heck you are only averaging 2's and 3's as an entire company on Glassdoor. If properties get 4's and 5's they should be rewarded not told you should have done better, now get busy and polish your resume.

Also, stop buying their high marks with extra money in budgets for Kingsley Events. If we don't have the money to do those things every year, then we shouldn't do them when we want their 5 vote. Very deceitful and unprofessional.

    Advice to Management

Take these reviews seriously and do something to make things better. Don't turn a blind eye or bury your head in the sand. So far that's all we've seen.

I worked at Welltower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They have great benefits, salary and PTO package. The main corporate office in Toledo is beautiful which has a gym and cafeteria. Their office in Florida is very stylish which includes a gym. They also offer gym reimbursement.

    Cons

As mentioned in other reviews, atmosphere is very cliquey. It's all in who you know not what you know. If you have the luck of getting in the right people's good graces you will do good in this company.
There are a handful of great people working there, but if you're not part of a clique you will feel isolated. Many occasions of being excluded from work or social gatherings. Some management leaders live in different states from their employees and are either too busy or just do not care. Weeks and months would go by without one word from the boss. Some employees skills were underutilized and ultimately they paid the price for bad management and were let go for "bad performance".

    Advice to Management

Work on better management. Be present and at least show some interest in your employees and not just your favorite rock star employees.
Stop spending ridiculous money on traveling. Too much fine dining, five star hotels, social gatherings on company dime.

    Pros

The gym and the office itself.

    Cons

Honestly, just too many to list. First and foremost, it's pretty sad that the company's propaganda machine is putting in their own reviews to slow down this avalanche of negative feedback on Glassdoor. It's pretty obvious HR is entering in these reviews. You knew what you were going to get and what was going to happen when you brought select people on board in 2016 that have a reputation for causing friction and angst among others. One of the senior leaders currently there has single-handedly destroyed what was once a great company culture and environment, and instead created one of extreme fear, politics, and backstabbing. As the saying goes, you reap what you sow. Deal with the fall out and consequences of your actions. In addition, to show you how vested these so called leaders are in the company and Toledo area itself, the CEO, along with many others, don't even live in Toledo. CEOs of all the major corporations in Toledo, live in Toledo, except for this company. New recruiters and new hires are being told to live in Ann Arbor instead of Toledo in order to get them to join the company. That's a complete shame and disservice to the city of Toledo. As many reviewers have correctly pointed out, there are cliques inside this company. If you're on the outside looking in, consider your career like drowning in quicksand and trying to stay afloat.

    Advice to Management

Advice to the Board is clean house in upper management to salvage what is currently left of the company. Otherwise continue to expect more people to continue to leave which is what they probably want anyways as well.

    Pros

It's a job in a shrinking Toledo market.

    Cons

EVERYTHING. Lies are told to employees daily. Over the last two years there seems to be a weekly ritual of firing people. People are scared to come to work. They encourage fraudulent reporting via threats of termination. Management claims to have a Whistleblower / Hotline but all issues go right to Management. Who would use it??? We take useless surveys that are nothing more than another tool for Management to isolate who to fire next. The rich continue to get richer and the workers are told to work harder and longer. Yeah, this is a great environment....Keep telling yourselves that.....

    Advice to Management

Read Cons if you have time.
