I have been working at Welocalize

    Pros

I have been in two other companies in the industry. I was looking for a new challenge and landed at Welocalize. Compared to the other two companies where I worked, Welocalize is ahead in more areas than behind. The standout is the people with a flexible and open culture followed by the company's approach to technology.

    Cons

Compared to the other two companies, Welocalize is a little behind in their training program. The on-boarding is fast and furious with a lot to learn. Those on-boarding steps could be a little better paced.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great culture, it is the best I have seen so far.

    I worked at Welocalize full-time

    Pros

The people at Welocalize are very hardworking (maybe to a fault) and depending on the office, the culture can be awesome or depressing. I have learned a lot in my four years at Welocalize and will continue to use this experience to grow in my career. The team has invested millions of dollars in technology so you will be working with great platforms that are constantly maintained. Dealing with Windows 1998 or obsolete...

    Cons

Revolving door in my particular office, I lost count after 60+ people left at year 2 with the company.

I have been working at Welocalize full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great people A lot of learning/training opportunities Great place to get well trained and move on Fun clients with exciting projects Nice offices Travel opportunities Mostly-Flexible schedule

    Cons

High stress Low pay (compensation wasn’t worth the stress, less than $20/hr once actual hours were applied instead of 40/week) 50 hour weeks is the expected norm and the company culture sees this as the “standard work week for adult professionals” - quoting a VP HUGE amounts of turnover (increases stress/hours for team)

    Advice to Management

You seem to turn your backs on the teammates that were exiting - this made transitions incredibly difficult for those who remain, and also looked very petty to the rest of us. I lost a lot of respect for you because of this. Your team is your team until the day they step out of the door for the last time. Honor their time and energy spent to benefit your work and your company. Don’t take advantage of them, nor take them...

I have been working at Welocalize full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good opportunity to learn about the industry, sharpen skills and be exposed to various situations that promote professional corporate knowledge and growth within your position.

    Cons

The company tries to cut costs at the expense of full time internal employees as well as external contractors and vendors with whom they interact. The focus on increasing revenue is obviously superior to creating a strong work culture and long term collective growth. Although the quality of the services provided are excellent, the professionalism in terms of management and talent retention is lacking.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the added value provided by loyal and hard working talent that is part of the company and promote growth through the timely provision of opportunities to move upward and a stable working environment that makes employees feel like they are a valuable asset and not expendable. Listen to the concerns and proactively tackle them to provide real-life palpable solutions to the teams already in place.

I have been working at Welocalize full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Gain experience in the industry in a very demanding position.

    Cons

Management is mediocre. When it comes to upper management, there is a clear disconnect between them and their global offices. But in terms of middle management, the situation is critical. Leadership is non existent, communication is unclear and devious, there is indifference towards the well-being of employees, goals are unreasonable and work ethic is questionable. They count with devoted and hard working talent, but...

    Advice to Management

Look up "emotional intelligence" and learn about it. This will surely improve your ability to retain, motivate and lead your team to grow some day.

I worked at Welocalize full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Project Managers are devoted, knowledgeable, and hardworking, they are always willing to lend a helping hand! The company has free snacks, coffee and monthly birthday cakes.

    Cons

At Welocalize, employees are merely a number, do not expect to be acknowledged for your talents and hard work. There is a major disconnection between work-life balance. As a project manager, expect to work 50-60 hours weekly and you'll be lucky if you get to take a lunch! There is no OT compensation for the project manager position because it is salary based. The company claims to have "global coverage" but in reality,...

    Advice to Management

Instead of "managing," supervisors should LEAD the team to success. Stop setting up employees for failure. Stop giving employees unrealistic workload and expect for there to be no rework on projects. Show your employees that you genuinely care about their health, personal/professional growth and take the time to actually LISTEN while also following up with ACTIONS that correct the tense and severely damaged company culture....

I have been working at Welocalize full-time

    Pros

The dress code is very casual, if you like that. Some very nice and smart people, although none are to be found in the management team

    Cons

The worst Dickensian sweatshop environment I've ever seen. Dishonest management, constant broken promises, poor infrastructure and support, penny pinching to the extreme. Owned by private equity squeezing every last fraction of a dollar out of the employees.

    Advice to Management

All of you should quit. This company will never get better while you are in charge.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Welocalize full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Location. Exposure to the big buyers in the industry.

    Cons

Onboarding program is virtually nonexistent aside from a library of training videos. Basically everything is left up to you to figure out what you need to for the accounts you're assigned to. This is especially difficult because there is very little continuity from account to account so not many people have relevant knowledge to share with you. For example, the same tools are used differently on different accounts and...

    Advice to Management

See cons. Also, I was warned about turnover before starting here. Within weeks I saw two projects managers leave, heard horror stories about previous employees not lasting 2 months, and even had clients ask why turnover is so high. After only a couple months I am the most "senior" person on an account. I fully understand why turnover is an issue and it doesn't seem that it's an issue the company cares to address at...

    Pros

Very diverse workplace with different cultures, people and ways of doing things. You can be yourself.

    Cons

On boarding new staff still needs work. There is a lot of learn on your own. Some of the training material needs refresh.

    Advice to Management

The environment of people being able to express themselves openly is great, keep it up.

    Pros

great vision, excellent co-workers, interesting people from around the world, strong leaders, fast paced, learned a lot, opportunity for more responsibility is good and very fast paced, made many friends for life, strong values, opportunity to see the world

    Cons

rapid fire changes that sometimes miss the mark, long hours, lots of travel, too much to do and too little time to do it! rapid pace sometimes causes confusion, communication at some levels is not clear

    Advice to Management

The vision is good, stay true to it, communicate more often
