I have been working at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital part-time for more than a year

    Pros

First of all, WDH is a Magnet hospital. It is not easy to achieve this designation, and it is a testament to the great patient care and involvement of direct care nurses in clinical decisions. The teamwork here is second to none. I actually worked here, relocated for a number of years and came back. I can tell you from experience that you won't find a better working environment where everyone truly takes care of each other while taking care of our patients.

    Cons

    Seriously... there aren't any!

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Relatively close to my home.

    Cons

Nursing pay could be better. Physician attitude towards nursing staff is fair to poor. Management is great at identifying problems of safety or nursing concerns, but doesnt seem to have any interest rectifying them. As long as there are plenty of meetings about the problems they get swept under the rug. As long as they can check the box that a problem has been identified and discussed it must be sufficient to keep their Joint Commission standing and Magnet status. Not a stellar way to run a hospital and it shows in employee turnover. Medical benefits are outrageously expensive as well, considering we dont come close to the staff salary caps of other MGH locations. The employer match of 0.5 percent of employee contribution is also dismal for anyone planning on retiring before the age of 93.

    Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Response

    January 25, 2021Director, Talent Acquisition

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. As we continuously seek the opportunity for improvement, we cannot do so without the feedback from our staff. Therefore, I would also ask that you discuss your specific concerns with Human Resources so that we can address your concerns and what options may be available to you.

I have been working at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I was looking for a new position working in a bigger hospital system with supportive management. I believe I have definitely found that at WDH. I feel challenged and appreciated. I have grown in my position in a short time in the OR within my position and I continue to be part of decisions and growth in the right direction.

    Cons

The longevity of the OR staff is a negative aspect of the OR. Lots of resistance to welcome new employees and push back for change and growth for the better. Some tension amongst their staff. High turnover on the short time I have been employed there.
