I have been working at Wesfarmers full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work at home opportunity. A little unorthodox from the standard way of gaining a job opportunity. This is a great place to work so far. I don't know much about it yet being that I just started. Even the interview and hiring process was unique in the fact that it and all other interactions have been through both emails and the Google Hangouts app.

    Cons

I'm not sure yet being that as of this posting, it's only my second day of training. So I really can't speculate on the cons yet. Everything has been positive so far.

    Advice to Management

    None as of yet..

    Pros

    Good people. Minimal workplace politics

I worked at Wesfarmers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Roles for entry-level candidates, management, business operations and senior executive. Career development, training and opportunities with any Wesfarmers-owned business across a diverse range of sectors including supermarkets, liquor, hotels and convenience stores; home improvement; office supplies; department stores; and industrials.

    Cons

Outsourced payroll and finance functions could possibly see an increase in communication barriers and time that is taken to attend to routine business matters.

    Advice to Management

Improving cross-functional and inter-business relations could be beneficial for overall corporate strategy, improving business operational efficiencies and enabling more organic shared learnings that support business commitments to education, training, and development of a skilled, engaged, inclusive and diverse workforce.

    Cons

Can be periods with not many opportunities to move upwards. Preferred training is internal rather than external.

    Pros

    - Great hands on approach to learning, love to get you out on the plant as much as possible
    - Given real responsibility and experienced great transparency of information
    - Exposure to a wide variety of tasks, multi-disciplined in nature
    - Most co-workers were always positive, liked to have fun and were always willing to help
    - Supervisor was not too intrusive, but wasn't didn't keep too much of a distance
    - Structured site visits and learning opportunities from senior personnel

    Cons

    - IT needs work, time taken to get access sorted out was frustrating
    - Some personnel seemed sceptical towards the future and towards the role of vacation students.

    Advice to Management

    - Keep listening to the student's feedback on the program, as it can only improve this way
    - Improve medium through which vac student events are organised

Part of Wesfarmers group which is great on Resume but that's about it.

    Cons

Poor leadership with widespread bullying amongst senior management. Very poor commercial performance in a declining market.
    Wide spread and frequent redundancies.

I have been working at Wesfarmers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wesfarmers display a large support for females within their management sector, which is predominately males. I have worked within Wesfarmers Industrial Safety for 10 years and have had multiple opportunities. I am now on my way to achieving my ultimate goal.

    Cons

With the large network of business that Wesfarmers have acquired, it would be great to receive a discount card for the other retail lines.
This is an opinion which is shared among the majority of the WIS staff base.

    Advice to Management

PDP's are really important to your staff. Please make them meaningful...it's a great opportunity to talk with your staff and understand what their goals are.
Sometimes the achievement is more important than the salaray.
