I have been working at West Georgia Technical College as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, meaningful work, slow pace. Give back to students and many are very grateful for the work and time we spend with them.

    Cons

Low pay ($20/hr), students academic work ethics are challenging. Many students have been away from the classroom for many years, therefore, many of them need a lot of hands on help adjusting.

    Advice to Management

Reduce duplicated attendance recording in several systems. Increase full/adjuncted pay rates. The admissions department has a high turnover rate. Not sure why.

To teach, coast, assist individuals to gain knowledge and lead them into their chosen field. Most students (traditional or non-traditional) have a strong desire to learn and reach their goals.

    Cons

A few students wanted to do nothing yet move on into the chosen field. It takes desire and initiative to get to your goals,

I have been working at West Georgia Technical College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best things about working for WGTC are that I know what I am doing is assisting someone in achieving their career goals. The benefits are great, especially the retirement benefits. Guaranteed 11 holidays each year and I gain 10 hours of sick leave and 10 hours of annual leave each month.

    Cons

The pay is not the best. It is also hard to advance because the people that work here get into a job they love and stay until they retire.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at West Georgia Technical College as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to decide how you want to instruct the students, with what material and tools you want to add in. They do not dictate your classes to you, you have full control over it. You have the freedom to teach in class or use practical teaching and teach outside or wherever you choose. They do marketing and advertising in town to bring more students in. That gives you a higher pay, if you choose to do it that way

    Cons

If you only have a few students, you don't make very much, if only enough to cover your gas costs. They do not provide much in the line of structure so you must build your class yourself. If your not one who knows how to do this, that could be a con.
