I worked at WestJet part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flight benefits with WestJet other airlines and hotels.

    Cons

No work life balance. Pay not great. Hours are never guaranteed (Change every 6 weeks) No seniority, no matter how long you work for the company you'll always have to work either Christmas or New Years every year and mostly all weekends in the summer time. Requested time off is almost never granted. No support from upper management. As frontline staff you never get paid overtime (Doesn't matter if you are part-time or full-time) High school environment, no professionalism or respect from upper management who gossip about employees in front of other employees.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees. Focus on big issues you know exist rather than overlooking them trying to fix irrelevant things that don't necessarily benefit employees on a day to day basis. Stop trying to make everything seem great every time Ed Sims comes to the city.

I worked at WestJet part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good flight benefits Friendly colleagues Employees look out for each other

    Cons

Over worked and under paid Horrible management Executive out of touch from employees and passengers Profits over people (wasn't always like that) No work / life balance Scheduled shift work with short meaningless shifts

    Advice to Management

Wake up! A complete replacement of all managers and executive. The employees are trying to help, be positive, move up to bigger and better things and they squash every one. Profits took over people and the company has completely changed and you need to realize that is not working. You lost and continue to loose great and very senior employees because of your lack of leadership.

I have been working at WestJet full-time

    Pros

The people are this department keep you sane. Friendly staff. Lots of room for growth, chance for OT. The flight perks and Employee Share program are awesome however,

    Cons

They pay you very low to start and You are overworked . Work life balance is not possible. Long hours, no premium for working overnight shifts. Exhausted.

    Advice to Management

Since working shift work is a different from 9-5 office work, a premium for overnight shifts would keep people happier doing these shifts and with their jobs. Pay needs to be up to economy standards and compensation needs to be reviewed each year.

I worked at WestJet full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    There were none at all

    Cons

Westjet’s Contact Centre is so poorly run it’s laughable. They’re team leaders are absolutely useless and under qualified for their positions. Very low pay / high stress / overly demanding / no work life balance / I feel sorry for anyone who works here as I got out right away and definitely made the right decision.

I have been working at WestJet full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flight benefits, health benefits, good atmosphere, friendly people.

    Cons

Loss of flexibility, problem employees stay for years & everyone just ignores the issues, career advancement removed, top heavy with management, work/life balance is basically null. Don't believe the hype - the only important "family" is the one you work for. They will gladly allow you to quit, no matter your work record or years of service. "Put up and shut up" should be the new motto.

    Advice to Management

Morale is heading downhill quickly, address the issues that people bring forward & don't ignore them. You lose good employees because of your stubborn attitudes and mistrust of employees.

    "Great Company"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at WestJet full-time

    Pros

Free travel. Great culture. Very generous employee share purchase plan. Lots of opportunities due to the growth within the company.

    Cons

It's tough to maintain work-life balance. A sense of entitlement has developed within some groups. Limited opportunities outside of the head office in Calgary

    Advice to Management

Lack of accountability for poor performance. There's a lot of waste and complacency. Management should address these issues rather than reducing costs with wage freezes and reduced benefits.
