    Pros

Good Benefits and leadership development opportunities. Be prepared to work during storms or outages. Great community involvement happens at this company.

    Cons

Management can be afforded opportunities to be held unaccountable for the work assigned them. Favoritism can sometimes be the factor for advancement.

I have been working at Westar Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice environment. Management cares about individuals, especially if they are unhappy with their current situation. Door is always open for discussions.

    Cons

Once you reach your mid-point in your salary range, you will not receive any more annual raises unless you get an outstanding rating (1 out of 100 get this), or you are promoted. Don't expect a promotion, either. They do not have their job descriptions well defined for IT.

    Advice to Management

Not much chance. Most people have been there for decades, and they will get first pick.

    Pros

If you just want to work and be a specialist at your job, the union jobs are great with the best safety in the nation. If you want to have a career and move up, the management side is always wide open and ready for the best people.

    Cons

No retirement program for the new hires.

    Advice to Management

Management is doing a great job. They do need to re-grab the 'old values' along with the new in order to be solid and progressive.

I have been working at Westar Energy (Less than a year)

    Pros

Treated like a full time employee, a great amount of flexibility and ownership.

    Cons

The location of the two headquarter locations can be a hassle. Also, the location overall has been a factor for people who wanted to live in a more metropolitan area.

I worked at Westar Energy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, used to be a great place to advance. Great co-workers, but most of the good people are leaving with the current culture and management driving them away. I had some of the best years of my career at Westar , but the last 4 years the company has really taken a turn for the worst.

    Cons

Outsourcing of IT employees, most of the IT management is terrible and gutless, they are only worried about themselves and 6 figure salaries. Senior management at Westar is driving the company into the ground. Westar has decided to start outsourcing many of the IT jobs overseas to China and India, and it wouldn't surprise me if they have a data breach of customer and employee data in the near future with these business practices. Does not value veteran employees, I worked at Westar for 10+ years and was not given a face to face exit interview when I left. I could go on and on, but just read the other reviews on Glass Door... stay away until the current management is flushed out the door.

    Advice to Management

    Wake up!!
