I have been working at Westbrook Health Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Caring co-workers and managers- It is a very supportive work place where everyone goes out if their way to make do with limited resources. Good benefits-health, vision, dental, 401k Clients- Helping them is the main reason I'm here

    Cons

Pay- the pay is low for the work we do, but that is pretty common for non-profits

    Advice to Management

Find some way to pay people based on performance. There really isn't a lot of incentive other than caring about the clients to be better than mediocre.

I have been working at Westbrook Health Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are some extremely competent and amazing people to work with in this company. Caring for, and advocating for clients, is a rewarding experience.

    Cons

Pay is not commensurate with expectations for employees. There is little to no effort by upper and middle management to know us, so they don't appreciate any unique or special abilities we may possess. Middle-aged women, who aren't counselors or management, are NOT treated with respect for their education, knowledge and experience. There is a condescending manner toward women of age, even among those who think... they are "enlightened".

    Advice to Management

Step outside your own understandings, and learn to see and value your employees for who they really are and what they can bring to the table. Pay them what they're worth, not what you can get away with.

I worked at Westbrook Health Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits are great, but the pay is horrible.

    Cons

Pay, promotional opportunities and the respect and appreciation from executive management are extremely lacking!

    Advice to Management

Learn to truly appreciate the staff you have without frivolous investigations used to get rid of people you do not like personally.

I worked at Westbrook Health Services full-time

    Pros

Entry Level Professional work. Able to do more than most places doing similar work. Attracted good talent in a small town so I learned a lot from some quality people who moved on.

    Cons

Totally corrupt and disorganized. As a male, I was actually sexually harassed. Had to leave because of it and because the emphasis become about something other than actually treating people

    Advice to Management

Drug test employees more. Keep people safe from clients. Protect Clients personal data. Put client first more. Market better services.

I worked at Westbrook Health Services full-time

    Pros

You grow to care about the clients you work with. You do get health benefits as well as sick/vacation time.

    Cons

No home-work balance. Expected to be available for any shift. You never know when you'll get to go home due to mandates. Supervisors have unrealistic expectations about employee loyalty for a near-minimum wage job.

    Cons

Pay is awful but the company does a lot for different communities and our people.

I worked at Westbrook Health Services full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay is above minimum wage. You'll get 40+ hours per week, and the benefits package is pretty decent. Since the work is done in client homes, one meal per shift will be provided for you.

    Cons

You're expected to be available 24/7 to come in and cover shifts. You can be written up if a supervisor calls you to cover a shift and you don't answer your phone. You can be mandated to stay an extra 8 hours with very little notice. Your enjoyment of your job is directly related to the other staff that you work with, and who your supervisor is.

    Advice to Management

Work/Home life balance is important to people. Expecting people to be available 24/7 isn't realistic.

I have been working at Westbrook Health Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Helping the clients, seeing positive change over time in their lives. Somewhat flexible schedule. Opportunity for CEUs for those currently attending school.

    Cons

Poor communication between all departments. Supervisor that doesn't listen to you. Huge case loads. Responsibilities are heaped on you left and right. Massive amounts of paperwork. No such thing as a raise. No overtime, yet not enough time to complete all the documentation.

    Advice to Management

Praise goes a long way. Constantly hearing how you are doing something wrong fosters resentment in employees. 5+ years without raises and knowing other staff without degrees get paid more is unacceptable.
